Watch Bangladesh U19 Cricket Vs. Sri Lanka Live Online: Streaming, 3rd Place World Cup Playoff

The gallant Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team narrowly missed advancing to the U19 World Cup Final, but fans can watch live streaming online to get one last look at the Young Tigers as they take on Sri Lanka for the World Cup third place honors, in a consolation playoff match Saturday morning — Friday evening for United States-based fans.

The Bangladesh youth squad made history by making it all the way to the semifinal of the U19 Cricket World Cup. But there, they ran into an in-form West Indies squad who took advantage of some nervous mistakes by Bangladesh to chase down 226 and win by three wickets with only eight balls remaining on Thursday in Dhaka.

A key drop of West Indies all-rounder Shamar Springer in the 34th over by Bangladesh pacer Mohammad Saifuddin proved costly as Springer went to post 62 not out, leading a West Indies fightback after Saifuddin had dismissed Captain Shimron Hetmeyer who cracked seven boundaries and a maximum in his 60-run stand.

A crowd estimated at 10,000 kept a chant of “Bangladesh, Bangladesh” going until the very end of the match, but U19 Captain Mehidy Hassan admitted that the enormity of the moment got into the heads of his young squad.

“We haven’t played in front of such a massive crowd before and we eventually felt the pressure of the Semi-final game, as they wanted us to win it,” said Mehidy. “We are getting adapted to the situation eventually, playing in such conditions and growing up.”

West Indies pacer Keemo Paul took three wickets in just three overs, while surrendering only 20 runs, to play an important role in stifling the Bangladesh batting attack.

The match is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m. India Standard Time at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah, Bangadesh, on Saturday, February 13. For United States fans, that start time will be 10 p.m. Eastern Time on the previous night, Friday, February 12 — 7 p.m. Pacific Time.

Despite the disappointment of their failure to reach the U19 World Cup final, Bangladesh are still guaranteed of the highest finish in a World Cup at any level for a Bangledesh cricket team. But they would like to make that a third-place rather than fourth-place finish.

Prior to this tournament, the highest a Bangladesh team had ever reached was the quarterfinals of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, by the country’s senior national team.

Bangladesh should be favored to hit that third-place spot over Sri Lanka, who were flattened by India in the first semifinal Tuesday, bowled out inside of 43 overs and falling to a 97-run defeat.
