Kevin Richardson departed from the Backstreet Boys in 2006, citing that he was done with being a pop star and that he needed to raise his family. Well, it looks as though Kevin Richardson got a little homesick because he’s back!

Since Kevin’s departure not much has been said about Richardson professionally speaking. In 2007 he joined the Broadway cast of Chicago as fast-talking Billy Flynn, and since then nothing has really cropped up for the ex pop star, who at 40, has decided to return to his roots.

This morning on Good Morning America, the group made it official as A.J. McLean, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, Nick Carter, and Richardson joined together to announce that Kevin was back in the group after a 6-year hiatus. Before Kevin decided to rejoin the band, the four remaining Backstreet Boys decided to tour with pop predecessors the New Kids on the Block for a few years.

On Good Morning America, the boys announced that the fab five are back for a new album, and an upcoming performance on Good Morning America’s Summer Concert sometime in August. The guys along with Richardson revealed that it’s been just like old times and that they’ve been living together as a group in London as well as working with producer Martin Terefe on an untitled album which should be ready for next spring. The release marks the band’s 20th anniversary together.

Youngest member and Backstreet heartthrob Nick Carter said about their time together as a group, “We wake up. We have breakfast together. We’re not sick of each other at all. It’s awesome. It really is. The vibe is fantastic.”
