Samsung Galaxy S7 And LG G5 Bring Back Excitement To Smartphone Industry

The Smartphone industry caused a lot of yawns to take place in 2015. There wasn’t any smartphone released that blew people away. Samsung’s Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, and Galaxy Note 5 were redesigned and earned great reviews, but customers yawned. The same goes with the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, which were barely upgraded from the previous versions.

2016 may have just started, but there are three smartphones that have already caused a lot of excitement. Two of them are from Samsung: the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge. Samsung is hoping to turn around their dwindling sales with these smartphones.

According to 9 to 5 Google, the Galaxy S7 series is shaping up to be a monster.

“A quick rundown of its specs alone reminds us that we are dealing with a metal-and-glass sandwich powered by either Qualcomm’s best system-on-a-chip, the Snapdragon 820, or the latest iteration of Samsung’s own Exynos chips.”

The article adds that there will be 4GB of RAM, a minimum of 32GB of internal storage, the return of the microSD card slot, a QHD AMOLED display with an “Always On” mode, an improved fingerprint scanner, a 12MP camera, and an incredible 3,000mAh battery (3,600 on the Edge model).

Perhaps the most significant out of all these specs is the 3,600mAh battery that will be included on the Edge version, which will probably be Samsung’s flagship model. There is currently a 3,000mAh battery in the Note 5, which has the best battery life out of any smartphone ever released. A 3,600mAh could give even power users two days of battery life.

The 12MP camera may cause some to flinch, especially since previous versions of Galaxy S smartphones have 16MP cameras. However, more megapixels doesn’t necessarily mean better pictures and Samsung’s new rear camera could actually end up being better than previous ones. Still, the excitement for the Galaxy S7 is at an all-time high on Twitter.

However, the Samsung Galaxy S7 isn’t the only new smartphone making waves. Gizmodo talks about some of the LG G5‘s features.

“LG is expected to make some big design changes to its flagship smartphone this year. Whereas the G4 was plastic and curved, the G5 will be cloaked in metal and straight as an arrow, according to noteworthy leaker Evan Blass.”

The article adds that the G5 will contain a Snapdragon 820 processor, 3GB of RAM, an LCD display, and — unfortunately — a smaller battery. However, the updated processor could very well make up for the smaller battery and may, in fact, increase the battery life.

The LG G5 will also have what is referred to as a “Magic Slot,” which will allow different accessories to connect to the smartphone. One could be a 360 degree camera and other could be a keyboard. There haven’t been any official accessories announced as of yet, but the smartphone itself will be announced on Feb. 21 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

No official release dates have been set for the Galaxy S7 or the LG G5, but many suspect they will arrive in stores the final week of March. Which smartphone would you rather have — the Galaxy S7 or the LG G5? Let us know in the comments section.
