Lana Del Rey Embraces Father John Misty In Hot New Video ‘Freak’

Lana Del Rey is here with her new video, and it stars none other than Father John Misty. Much to her fans’ delight, she posted the video on Instagram.

Del Rey had indicated to her fans two weeks ago on Instagram that she would be premiering the video, and she did as promised! The photo Del Rey posted had a Sepia photo of Del Rey and Father John Misty. The singer can be seen wearing a beaded head band on her signature long hair while Father John Misty stands in the background.

Lana has not let go off the opportunity for self reference (and promotion) when she featured the women from her previous video, “Music To Watch Boys To.” This one also has an underwater fantasy sequence, Time has reported.

However, before Lana released the video this morning, she had released a preview on Monday that featured about 12 seconds of the video.

She had been releasing several pictures of herself and snapshots from the video on her Facebook page. The wait finally came to an end Wednesday. The song has Father John Misty and Lana Del Rey embracing each other, and a bunch of other girls making an appearance too.

Father John Misty, aka Joshua Tillman, is a former member of indie rock bands Saxon Shore, Fleet Foxes, Siberian, and a few more, Q The Music has said. Father John Misty is a big fan of Lana Del Rey’s music, he has said. He said that Del Rey’s Honeymoon was one of his favorite albums of 2015, Consequence of Sound reported.

Although all of us are aware who Lana Del Rey is, not much is known about Father John misty. MTV has reported that he’s been a fan of Del Rey’s music for a very long time.

He was a Fleet Foxes drummer and spent about four years with them. He then quit. He has played on Kimmel and Colbert’s shows, and has also done a gig for Letterman. Father John Misty released album I Love You, Honeybear last year. The album was critically acclaimed.

If you begin to explore his Twitter feed, you could find a lot of sarcastic comments.

Independent reviewer Andy Gill gave the album a a four of five and said “Honeymoon is a very Hollywood album, oozing Californian entropy.” Well, if there is something one can agree on, it is that that would be a perfect way to describe the “Freak” video.

Honeymoon is Lana Del Rey’s fifth album and was released in 2015. She came into prominence after Lana Del Ray, her first album that came out in 2010 was a big hit. She followed it with Born to Die in 2012 and Ultraviolence in 2014. Her music video “Video Games” had gone viral and garnered a lot of praises. She won her first Grammy nomination for Best Pop Vocal Album for Paradise.

“Freak” brings with it a retro feel. A song shot in the desert, that takes you back to the ’60s and in a surreal but pleasant way explores some questions of life.

Her love for John Misty’s music is not new. NME reports she also told the Current in November last year: “I’m [Father John Misty’s] number one fan. His songs really bring me back to why I started writing in the first place. None of the fancy stuff, it’s just the story in each one of his songs. I feel like he has all of his insecurities and all of his hopes flow so seamlessly throughout each song. And his voice is amazing. I’ve seen him live a few times. We went on tour together for a minute.”

Lana Del Rey had also told Radio.com in a 2013 interview that “I don’t listen to that much new music, but I actually really love Father John Misty, who kind of reminded me of my roots.”
