Jennifer Lopez: American Idol Exit Opens Up Return To Movies

Jennifer Lopez is dealing well with her surprise American Idol resignation / sacking. The 42-year-old actress/singer/former talent show judge has alreadygot her next move planned: a return to her movie career. Can you say Gigli 2?

“I do miss doing films. I feel like the last two years with (American) Idol, I’ve really, really focused on, you know, my music. It was all kind of very synergistic, it worked really well together. But (film) is something that I really loved, it’s how I kind of started in this business, and it doesn’t leave you. I am an actress, I need to do that, too.”

Of course, Lopez never really went away from movies – she’s already featured in two 2012 releases (What to Expect When You’re Expecting and Ice Age: Continental Drift), and has a third film out in 2013 (Parker). Yet it’s true her films have become less frequent, with J.Lo classics such as Monster-in-Law, The Back-up Plan and Angel Eyes now but a sadly distant memory. Truly, American Idol‘s loss is film-making’s gain.

Lopez exited the American Idol panel last week, following close behind fellow judge Steven Tyler, who announced a day earlier he was leaving the show to dedicate more time to his band, Aerosmith.

Yet while Lopez is buzzing to get back on movie sets, she also has her music career to consider, and the small matter of a world tour with Enrique Iglesias. As her Twitter feed points out, the tour is only just getting started:

There’s also an upcoming greatest hits album due later this year. Are you relieved to see Jennifer Lopez returning to what she does adequately?
