Will Smith ‘Definitely’ Making ‘Bad Boys 3’ With Martin Lawrence, Planning 2016 World Tour With Jazzy Jeff

Will Smith dropped some great news for fans of the Bad Boys movie franchise during an interview with BBC Radio 1. Smith was on hand talking about his current blockbuster Concussion and the upcoming Suicide Squad when the host, A. Dot, asked Will whether or not we could expect Bad Boys 3 to become a reality, and the answer to that is yes! Smith also addressed why he won’t be seen in another sure blockbuster, Independence Day: Resurgence.

“I saw Martin a few weeks ago,” Smith said. “I haven’t seen him for about two years. We just looked at each other. We hugged. In that moment, we knew we were making another Bad Boys. We’re definitely doing another one.” Smith joked that those looking for a Wild, Wild West 2 would have to keep on hoping because that’s one movie he would probably pass on making. As for Independence Day: Resurgence, Smith had to pass on the project simply because of his filming schedule, but if he hadn’t already been busy with Suicide Squad, we probably would have seen Will Smith in that upcoming sequel, too.

Rumors have swirled that a Bad Boys 3 movie – and even Bad Boys 4 – have been on the horizon for years. Fans of the first two movies in the popular franchise couldn’t be more excited for Will Smith to confirm that he and Martin Lawrence are not only interested in the sequels but that they are actively seeking to make them. Smith promised several months ago that Bad Boys 3 would be ready in the next 12 to 16 months, and he repeated that same time estimate this week in the interview with BBC Radio 1.

Will Smith’s interview covered a range of subjects, including his controversial parenting choices, the Oscars boycott, and his very busy schedule. Smith told fans about a couple of projects he has coming up that are really exciting. In addition to the very highly anticipated Bad Boys sequel, Smith also confirmed that he will be going on tour with his former hip-hop partner, Jazzy Jeff.

“I’m pretty certain I’m going on tour,” Smith says. “Jeff and I actually never have done a full tour. I was always on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. I was always either making a movie, so we’ve never actually done a full tour. So I’m looking this summer to be the first time that we go out on a full world tour.”

Smith’s world tour with Jazzy Jeff was teased last year when he told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s working on new music and a tour. It was back in October when Will Smith told fans on Zane Smith’s Beats 1 radio show that he has about 30 songs recorded. Smith said in the interview that there are “six or seven that I really, really like, that I’m trying to get the ideas to come out right.” So it sounds like fans can expect new music from the rapper turned movie star as well as some of the classics when he hits the stage with Jazzy Jeff for a tour that has been promised for decades.

Will talked about his kids during the interview too, admitting that he “may have gone too far” with the amount of freedom of expression he’s allowed his children. His son, Jaden Smith, recently drew both praise and criticism when he appeared in a new campaign for the Louis Vuitton womenswear collection. Jaden has made waves several times with his choices in clothing, often opting to ignore gender norms and step out in skirts and other clothing typically considered women’s clothing.

Will Smith called his son “fearless,” and despite his admission that parenting is scary, he spoke highly of Jaden for pushing the limits in fashion. “There’s a really powerful, internal quality as an artist that as parents we encourage,” Will Smith said. “You gotta get out on the edge. You have to try things. You have to be comfortable doing things that people don’t agree with.”
