‘Spy Kids’ Actress Alexa Vega To Divorce Husband Sean Covel

Alexa Vega and her husband of less than two years, Sean Covel, have decided to split.

The 23-year-old Spy Kids actress filed for divorce from her 36-year-old movie producer husband Sean Covel after less than two years of marriage, reports Us Weekly. The pair, who wed in October of 2010, are divorcing due to the oft-cited “irreconcilable differences,” according to Vega’s divorce filing. Though the divorce filing is fairly recent, Vega listed the couple’s separation as having occurred all the way back on March 5th, several months prior to anything becoming official.

In case you don’t recognize the all-growed-up Vega, she is best known for playing Carmen Cortez in Spy Kids, a 2001 film that I like to refer to as “James Bond for kids.” In contrast to other celebrity splits, Vega hasn’t exactly been keeping this one a secret over the past several months. She was at a Los Angeles event in May, admitting to fellow guests that she was in the midst of a split from her hubs, but insisted that she was fine and that she believes everything happens for a reason. Her Twitter account is filled with similar platitudes, and has been for quite some time now. Here is the latest sample:

If you don’t recognize Covel, her 13-year senior (it’s okay, I didn’t when I went to write this article), that’s because he’s a little-known film producer whose only real credit is cult-hit Napolean Dynamite, which no one really talks about anymore (animated television series notwithstanding).

Though Vega has worked intermittently since her Spy Kids years, she hasn’t really gotten that break as an adult that would overshadow her work as a child star, notes the Huffington Post. Vega will next be seen in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills.
