Sri Lanka travels to top-ranked India for the first of three T20 cricket matches on Tuesday, and fans of both countries can watch the game streaming live online as the two countries play their first T20 match since Sri Lanka shocked heavily-favored India by six wickets in the final of the T20 Cricket World Cup on April 6, 2014.
This time, the three-match series will be the last chance for both countries to get their games in order for the shortest format of cricket, before they meet again playing for high stakes, first in the Asia Cup T20 tournament later this month.
Shortly after the conclusion of the Asia Cup, both India and Sri Lanka once again start up the 2016 T20 Cricket World Cup, perhaps destined to play their third World Cup final against each other since 2011.
India defeated Sri Lanka in the final of the 2011 Cricket World Cup — the 50-overs version — and then Sri Lanka turned the tables three years later, winning the T20 World Cup championship and denying India a historic “treble.” An India win in the 2014 T20 World Cup would have given India simultaneous championships in the Cricket World Cup, Under-19 World Cup and T20 World Cup.
Relive the stunning reaction to Sri Lanka’s unexpected victory in the 2014 T20 World Cup in the news video from Indian television below.
To find out how to watch the first India vs. Sri Lanka T20 match of their three-match series live online, see the streaming links at the bottom of this article. The game is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 p.m. India Standard Time at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, India, on Tuesday, February 9.
For fans in the United States, that start time translates to 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, 6 a.m. Pacific.
With two major tournaments coming up over the next two months, India has chosen to rest their top batsman, Virat Kolhi, for all three T20 matches against Sri Lanka. Former Chennai Super Kings spinner Pawan Negi has received his maiden call-up to the national team. Mid-order batsman Manish Pandey will also join the side.

Captain M.S. Dhoni says he plans to use the three-match Sri Lanka series to help top India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin regain some of the form that has gone missing on the team’s recently completed tour of Australia.
“He just makes my job slightly easy, especially for a consistent period of time when my fast bowlers have not done well,” Dhoni said. “It is good to have him and I think he is a great asset to the side irrespective of the format.”
Sri Lanka also fields a significantly weakened side as they try to get their lineup in order before the Asia and World Cup competitions. Intimidating fast bowler Lasith Malinga, world-class batsman Angelo Mathews and spinner Rangana Herath are all rehabbing injuries and hope to return in time for the T20 World Cup in March.
In the meantime, Sri Lanka looks to find a partner for opener Tillakaratne Dilshan.
India-based broadcaster Star Sports will stream the first T20 match between India and Sri Lanka from Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium at this link. There are other legal ways to watch Willow TV for free. Certain promotional offers make it possible to watch the all-cricket network, including all three India vs. Sri Lanka T20 matches, for free for a limited period of time, such as the offer at this link. Another good bet would be the one-month free trial of Sling TV’s International Sports Package, which includes Willow. Information on that deal can be found at this link.
