Christina Aguilera And Hayden Panettiere Become Soul Sisters On ‘Lip Sync Battle,’ Perform ‘Lady Marmalade’ [Video]

Christina Aguilera became Hayden Panettiere’s soul sister during her guest appearance on Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle, but the diva didn’t try to steal the spotlight from the Nashville star—Christina let Hayden be the center of attention with her sexy red bustier, booty shorts, and knee high boots.

According to E! News, Lip Sync Battle fans can watch Hayden Panettiere face off against Eva Longoria on this Thursday night’s episode of the only singing competition that encourages performers to silently mouth words instead of actually singing them. In a teaser clip, Hayden is shown strutting her stuff on the stage while she lip syncs the lyrics to Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya & Pink’s “Lady Marmalade.” This fierce foursome’s version of the Labelle tune with naughty French lyrics was featured in the 2001 movie Moulin Rouge!

If the movie ever gets remade, perhaps Hayden Panettiere should be cast as the cabaret star played by Nicole Kidman; she proves that she has the right moves for the Moulin Rouge by shaking her booty and channeling her inner diva. Hayden rocks a costume that’s very similar to the one that Christina Aguilera wears in the “Lady Marmalade” music video, and it even includes that wild, lion mane-like hair piece.

Hayden was likely feeling a lot of pressure during her performance because Christina was there to critique it. The Voice coach joined Hayden Panettiere on the Lip Sync Battle stage just in time to pretend to hit her high notes. As you can see, Christina Aguilera opted against trying to squeeze into her old bustier and lingerie. Instead, she kept her look a bit more conservative by rocking a black peplum jacket and leggings. However, Christina did sex it up just a touch by wearing a bedazzled push-up bra underneath her top.

Unfortunately for Hayden Panettiere, Christina Aguilera makes her look like a lip-syncing amateur when she pretends to belt out her segment of the song, and trying to imitate a memorable music moment from the early 2000s doesn’t always play well with the nostalgic Lip Sync Battle audience. Kaley Cuoco tried to recreate Britney Spears’ iconic 2001 MTV Video Music Awards performance of “I’m A Slave 4 U,” but her Britney-esque abs couldn’t help her defeat Frozen star Josh Gad and his wacky Donald Trump impersonation. However, Britney Spears didn’t pop up on Lip Sync Battle to help Kaley carry her Albino Burmese Python, and Christina Aguilera’s appearance alongside Hayden could benefit her—two blonde bombshells have to be better than one, right?

There’s no word on the second song that Hayden Panettiere will be performing on the show or which tunes Eva Longoria has chosen to lip sync, but viewers can only hope that Hayden will let Eva borrow Christina for a “Genie in a Bottle” performance. In the Lip Sync Battle teaser clip, Eva seems to be wearing an ’80s-inspired ensemble with giant hoop earrings, hot pink athletic shorts, knee pads, and a thick gold chain. However, it’s possible that her tune isn’t from the decade that was ruled by pop princesses like Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, and Janet Jackson. Eva Longoria’s knee pads could be evidence that she’s planning on getting on the floor and twerking to a tune like Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda.”

Speaking of Nicki Minaj, she’s one of the female musicians that Christina Aguilera would love to see covering the 2001 version of “Lady Marmalade” (the rapper would have no trouble singing Lil’ Kim’s part). Christina told TIME that she also thinks that Miley Cyrus should be a part of the next “Marmalade” mix, and Minaj’s “Bang Bang” collaborators, Jessie J and Ariana Grande, would round out her favored foursome of soul sisters.

However, in the Lip Sync Battle teaser video, Christina Aguilera proves that it will be tough for another singer to take her place if the ’70s song ever gets retooled again. You can check out “more, more, more” of Christina and Hayden’s “Lady Marmalade” when Lip Sync Battle airs Thursday, February 11 at 10 p.m. ET on Spike TV, and you can watch the 2001 music video below.
