LeAnn Rimes may want to get some cooking tips from her ex-husband Dean Sheremet. The country star’s ex, 35, has just published a cookbook titled Eat Your Heart Out, and there is even a bit of dish alongside the recipes for cauliflower fried rice and butternut squash lasagna. Indeed, the intro to the book is titled “Love, Loss and How the Kitchen Saved Me,” so you do the math.
Sheremet’s new book is being described as a cookbook/mini-memoir, so that means his tumultuous marriage to LeAnn Rimes is part of the mix. Sheremet married Rimes in 2002 when he was just 21. The union ended in 2009 after LeAnn had an affair with her married Lifetime movie co-star, Eddie Cibrian.
In an interview with the Tennessean, Sheremet says he cut his cooking teeth while making big meals for LeAnn’s band and crew when she was on the road. After giving up his own career to manage his wife’s, he used cooking as a way to create some normalcy in his life, saying that he was always on a quest to “create the construct of a normal family.” And when his marriage to Rimes crumbled, Sheremet used his love of cooking as a way to take back control.
“I came to that point, you know what, I need something that’s inherently mine that no one can take away from me.”
While LeAnn Rimes makes millions as a music country star, Dean ditched his career as a backup dancer to attend chef school, and he went on to work long shifts at high-end eateries for a mere $11 an hour. But he also graduated at the top of his class from the French Culinary Institute and earned a spot in the coveted Jean Georges kitchen, as well as gigs as a TV foodie with appearances on CBS’ The Talk, Hallmark Channel’s Home and Family, and more.

There’s little doubt that LeAnn Rimes will read her ex-husband’s book. And not just to find a good recipe for tomatillo salsa, either. Since the book is partly a mini-memoir, the “Blue” singer will surely sneak a peek to see what her ex wrote about their rocky relationship. Cibrian’s ex-wife Brandi Glanville previously revealed that Rimes watched her when she was on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, because her son told her Andy Cohen’s RHOBH after-show, Watch What Happens Live, was the country singer’s “favorite” show.
While Sheremet’s career is moving along, he has been vocal about the fact that Rimes’ is rather stagnant. The one-time country superstar hasn’t had a hit record in years, and her reality show with Cibrian tanked after one season in 2014. In an interview last year with the lifestyle website Nat’s Next Adventure, Dean said LeAnn blew it when she dumped him and lost him as her manager all in one fell swoop.
“The dumbest thing she ever did for her career was divorce me, because we were such a good team. The last hit song she had [“Nothing Better To Do”] was when she was with me.”
Still, LeAnn Rimes seems to have no regrets about the end of her marriage to Dean. But she does regret how it played out in the tabloids. In 2012, Rimes told E! News that she could have handled her extramarital affair in a better way to avoid hurting so many people.
“I don’t like the word regret. I wish I handled it differently because I wish I could have been better for me, for Brandi, for Dean, for Eddie, and for everyone else.”
LeAnn Rimes touched on the affair on her 2013 album Spitfire, with the song “What Have I Done.” She was still with Dean when she wrote the song.
