‘Downton Abbey’ Final Season Spoilers: Violet Is On The Warpath, Thomas Is Misunderstood

The war rages on between Violet and Cora on this week’s episode of Downton Abbey. After last week’s extremely bloody dinner party, Lord Grantham is now recovering but still has to put up with the bickering between his wife and mother. Who won this round? It looks like this one went to Cora Crawley.

The hospital merger has been approved but the worst part of the whole deal is that the Dowager Countess is being “allowed to step down after years of service” as chairman of the board, which means that she is being booted out and being replaced by her daughter-in-law, as told by Entertainment Weekly. But who is going to be brave enough to tell Violet?

Unfortunately, she did get wind of the news and now Robert is caught in the middle. Violet is not taking this well as she wanted her son to relay a message to his wife.

“Tell Cora I do not wish to see her face until I get used to having a traitor in the family.”

What hurt even more was the Downton open house that Lady Mary and Tom Branson came up with as a way to give to charity. It gives others a chance to see how “the other half lives.” Robert just called the whole thing “crackers” but Lady Mary gets her way as usual. Tom thought it may be a good way to provide some Downton funds coming in to do an open house regularly. Mary was appalled at the thought.

Daisy is on the warpath again after Mr. Mason gives her a note to take to Mrs. Patmore thanking her for helping him move in. She wasn’t too thrilled by this and let him know that she didn’t think it was a good idea.

“You don’t want to encourage her. She is too curious for her own good.”

Mr. Mason said that everyone could use a little encouragement. Later on Downton Abbey, Daisy left the note in the trash when she got back to Downton. Mrs. Patmore found it and by the smile on her face, she was definitely encouraged. However, Daisy was not.

Mr. Carson is also being a nuisance, as TV Line pointed out, after he told Mrs. Hughes that she needs to see Mrs. Patmore about how to crisp up a duck and maybe even a lesson in making the bed because he prefers “sharp corners.” He told his wife that he just wanted to bring things up to standard. Mrs. Hughes’ face showed that she was trying her best to respect her husband, but she is not going to take it much longer.

While everyone else is worried about their jobs at Downton, it looks like Mr. Moseley is in high demand. Not as a servant, but something even better. He was asked to help out at the school where Daisy is taking her test. Moseley is quite an educated guy and he loves to help people out. The school’s headmaster saw that in him and now Moseley is beside himself with happiness.

Meanwhile at Downton Abbey, Baxter received a letter from Mr. Croyle who was sent to prison for his crimes. He wants her to visit him and it looks like she is going to do just that, even if Mr. Moseley disagrees with the idea.

Mary, Tom, and Anna head to London. Anna went to see the doctor and got good news that her pains were nothing to worry about. Lady Mary met up with Henry Talbot and confessed about her dislike of cars since Matthew died in one. She also told him that things were moving too fast after their alley way smooch in the rain. Henry told her that he was falling in love with her.

Lady Edith and Bertie are getting along just fine. It’s nice to see her finally so happy and relaxed. But will she let him in on her secret about Marigold?

Speaking of the secret, Lady Mary has been a busy body questioning both Anna and Tom about Edith and the little girl. She told Tom that she is going to feel very betrayed if everyone knows a secret expect for her. Let the betrayal begin.

Thomas has begun to teach Andy to read, but had to do it late at night to keep the secret, which brought some talk in the downstairs area. Carson and Mrs. Patmore were certain that something else was going on between them even though Andy insisted last week that he was “not that way.”

Unfortunately, Thomas had to defend himself to Mr. Carson when he confronted him about it. Now Barrow’s job is even more up in the air if Carson should unfairly rat him out. This whole scenario has brought Thomas to tears. It was bound to happen as he told Baxter last week that he did care about what everyone thought of him. It is indeed true.

Do think Thomas will ever win favor with anyone at Downton Abbey?
