Uvalde, Texas Teen Commits Suicide After Killing Mom, 2 Neighbours And Family Dog

On Sunday authorities reported that a 19-year-old Texas teen killed his mother and two of his neighbours before he turned a gun on himself in the rural area of Uvalde, Texas. The shooting also brought out several SWAT vehicles and a number of emergency vehicles in the area.

Uvalde County Sheriffs were called to the area after a neighbour of the gunman Dylan Westerburg witnessed him murdering one of the brothers who lived next door to him and his mother and reported the crime. County Sheriff Charlie Mendeke said that the two brothers, Arthur and Phinny Norton, were killed on Friday afternoon in their home near Uvalde which is about 85 miles of San Antonio only after he had already gunned down his 42-year-old mother.

Upon arrival at the scene, as reported by ABC News, the authorities reported that a single gunshot was heard by responding officers, and they immediately surrounded the home and began evacuating the residents of nearby homes. The investigators later determined that that gunshot was most likely the sound of Westerburg as he committed suicide. The home was that of the brothers, whom Westerburg shot and killed. All three of their bodies were discovered inside the house once the police entered.

Westerburg and his mother lived in a small cabin located about 20 yards away from the Norton’s mobile home, both of which were on the brother’s property. In giving his report of the incident Mendeke advised that the oldest brother, Phinny Norton, 60, is said to have had some “sort of romantic relationship” with the mother of the gunman, 42-year-old Jennifer Diane Jacques. In fact, domestic dispute calls have brought the Uvalde County Sheriffs out to the property previously, but not for anything “violent.”

The younger Norton brother, 58-year-old Arthur Norton, was killed by the teenaged boy after his older brother. The witness who called the authorities is another teenager who was returning from a walk with Arthur when they saw shotgun shells and broken glass surrounding the mobile home. Mendeke advised that it was after the older man entered the home that he was shot and the boy fled to call the authorities.

“Mr. Norton enters the house, the kid who was with him hears and sees a gun blast and sees Mr. Norton fall to the floor.”

When the police arrived and heard the second gunshot, they were unaware of the fact that there was only one gunman in the home, and it was out of precaution that they surrounded the homes and evacuated the neighbouring houses. Approximately 50 to 60 officers from different agencies, as well as from the Texas Department of Public Safety SWAT team, were called in, and the authorities also closed all roads that were leading to the property. They even stayed overnight.

The search of the homes not only revealed the two bodies inside the mobile home but also that of Westerburg’s mother. Jennifer Jacques’ body was discovered in her own cabin along with the family dog, who had also been shot and killed.

According to the Daily Mail, back in 2014 Dylan Westerburg had posted a photo to Facebook of an assault rifle, that he captioned: “I love my gun, it’s a good gun.” Kenneth Westerburg, Dylan’s father posted a heartbreaking message to Facebook advising that he had lost one of his son’s and his best friend (Dylan’s mom) had been killed.

Mendeke says that authorities have not yet identified a motive for the killings.
