Mark Zuckerberg Speaks Mandarin For Chinese New Year, Gets 18 Million Views On Facebook [Video]

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is a man of many talents. A new video titled “Happy New Year!” on Facebook, posted by Mark Zuckerberg on Saturday, February 6, at approximately 8 p.m. ET, has swelled to more than 18,660,900 views. The seemingly flawless way that Mark speaks Mandarin for the “Year of the Monkey” was apparently so unexpected that the video has been shared nearly 130,000 times on Facebook.

“Happy Lunar New Year from Priscilla, Max and me!

“In the Year of the Monkey, I hope you and all your loved ones find happiness, health and good fortune.”

In the Facebook video, Mark and Dr. Priscilla Chan speak in Mandarin about enjoying their first Lunar New Year with their daughter, Max, and they introduce their baby’s Chinese name as well. Adorable close up shots of Max in the video display a beautiful baby with big, soulful eyes.

“Happy New Year! Priscilla and I are very excited to celebrate our first Lunar New Year with Max.

“We hope on this holiday, you are also spending it with your family and friends. Last night at Facebook, we hosted our annual Lunar New Year celebrations. This year, we have the honor of hosting famous chefs from China representing many different cuisines for everyone at Facebook to experience. My favorite was duck!”

Mark went on to speak in what seemed like flawless Mandarin — at least to Americans and others who might not know Mandarin — about how he went on to celebrate the holiday. Dr. Chan recounted getting together with family to reunite for dinner.

“To celebrate the new year, members of our family gathered to enjoy a reunion dinner last night.

“This is also a meaningful holiday for Max because we have chosen her Chinese name. Her name is Chen Mingyu. Chen after her mother’s family name and Mingyu represents our hope for a brighter tomorrow for the world.”

After Mark explained how he and Priscilla chose Max’s Chinese name and the hopeful meanings behind the name Chen Mingyu, Zuckerberg had an impromptu moment with his baby, when he asked her if his Chinese wasn’t good. The way that Mark and Priscilla smile at their baby after he asks the question, it seems as if Max may have given her dad a smile in response to his query.

“From our little family to yours, we wish you health and prosperity in the New Monkey Year! Happy New Year!

“You think my Chinese is bad?”

As reported by the Daily Mail, Mark Zuckerbergand Priscilla’s daughter is 2-months-old, and her full name is Maxima, hence the nickname Max. Zuckerberg wished everyone good fortune and great health as Priscilla and Maxima appeared in red dresses, a color of good luck. Zuckerberg wore a gray t-shirt, perhaps not wanting to get in on the traditional red color for the Chinese Lunar New Year.

People reported that the 30-year-old Chan spoke lovingly as the parents held little Max, dressed in her red mini embroidered blouse. As her famous parents spoke about the Lunar New Year, Max was none the wiser about the holiday as the little baby yawned like a sleepy and happy infant.

Every move made by Zuckerberg is often closely followed, especially since Fortune reports Mark as being one of the richest people in the world with only three other persons being richer than Zuckerberg. Mark’s philosophy has often included the advice to “break things up,” because according to his philosophy, if a person isn’t breaking things, they aren’t moving fast enough in their life.
