Mickey Gall Defeats Mike Jackson, Earning The Right To Fight CM Punk At His UFC Debut

Ever since CM Punk signed on to fight in the UFC back in December 6, 2014, at UFC 181: Hendricks vs. Lawler, many wondered when his first match would actually happen. The reason why so many were looking forward to Punk’s debut isn’t because they want to see how he performs in the cage, but to simply see someone beat him up. For those who don’t know, many in the MMA community believe Punk doesn’t belong in UFC, given the fact that he had no prior MMA training, no prior MMA combat experience, and that his background is strictly professional wrestling.

Many UFC fighters have also expressed their disdain for CM Punk, wanting to take him on in his debut just to halt the hype train he brings. Cathal Pendred was the first MMA fighter wanting to fight Punk. However, that was no longer an option when Pendred retired from combative MMA after his most recent loss. Now, we have Mickey Gall who called out Punk in his first UFC fight. Dana White took notice and said if Gall wins his second UFC fight, he’ll earn the right to fight Punk in his debut. Fortunately for Gall, that is exactly what happened. Mickey Gall will be CM Punk’s first opponent in MMA and UFC.

The stipulation was set by Dana White after Mickey Gall expressed his desire to fight CM Punk in his debut. According to NYSE Post, the winner of the Mickey Gall versus Mike Jackson fight at UFC Fight Night 82 will have the honors. It did not take long for Gall to seal the deal as he made quick work of Jackson, submitting him in the first round with a rear-naked choke after Jackson went down from a right fist smack center into his chin. All done within 45 seconds of the first round. After Gall’s hand was raised, he made it known he cannot wait for his fight against CM Punk, that he’s “hungry” per se.

“Last time I was on the mic, I was talking about one guy and I’m still thinking of that one guy. I want to be fed, I’m hungry! Feed me, CM Punk, please!”

Surprisingly, CM Punk joined Mickey Gall in the middle of the Octagon and congratulated him on a job well done. It was a serendipitous moment showing that for the majority of MMA fighters, trash talk isn’t something personal, it is a means to hype a fight, and only a select few MMA fighters (Ronda Rousey, Conor McGregor, The Diaz Brothers) probably take their trash talk personally and seriously.

In the post-fight interview provided by MMA Fighting, Mickey Gall provided his thoughts on what transpired during the fight and apparently, he was surprised it ended the way it did. Gall did not expect Mike Jackson to go down so quickly because he believed Jackson had a chin on him, citing past fights in which Jackson took a punch. Gall, however, was not surprised with Jackson’s ground game given what he’s heard about it.

Ultimately, Mickey Gall gets his wish to fight CM Punk in his UFC and MMA debut. Even during the interview, Gall made sure to hype up the fight, calling their exchange in the Octagon “soccer mom, small talk,” and that he has a chance to “beat up a superstar.”
