Anthony Weiner Considering Running For New York City Mayor in 2013

Former congressman Anthony Weiner, who was forced to resign from Congress in a nasty sexting scandal might have some big plans to reenter politics. The Daily Mail is reporting that the frisky Congressman is considering running for Mayor of New York City in 2013 when current Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s term is up.

There was widespread speculation hat Weiner was considering a run for Mayor in 2013 before the sexting scandal hit. At the time he was accused of having dozens of online sex relationships and it basically ended his political career. Well now the New York Press is saying it may be time to put the past in the past and watch him rise again.

According to the New York Post, Weiner has already brought up the idea to several staffers who have said they would be willing to join him in a run. They are also encouraging him to run for Public Advocate if he decides the Mayoral race isn’t for him.

Gothamist reports that former representative Weiner has around $4.5 million in his campaign war chest. The only Democratic challenger that can compete at that level is City Council Speaker and current Democratic frontrunner Christine Quinn. Weiner has already begun to put together a political organization and has bought offices and started installing the phones and internet.

Weiner had originally faded into the background after the scandal hit but has recently been coming back out into the spotlight. Last month he made an appearance on WNYC to talk to the press about the Obamacare ruling.

Weiner’s wife is a close confidant of the Clinton family and it will be interesting to see if they support him in his bid for Mayor.
