Rumor: Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez Fired From American Idol

The Rumor Mill is running strong with the news that Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez did not quit the hit show American Idol. Nope, the duo was reportedly fired from the show, well not exactly canned but were told that their contracts would not be renewed.

Perez Hilton is reporting that Jennifer Lopez was renegotiating her contract to appear in her third year as American Idol judge. J-Lo was supposedly asking for her pay to be bumped from $15 million dollars a season to $17 million dollars a season, which in the Idol world doesn’t even seem so significant. She supposedly was utterly shocked that the network chose instead to break off negotiations and let her go her own way.

Steven Tyler reportedly didn’t even make it to that point. He was informed by the network that they were declining to pick up his additional year’s options.

But it seems as if American Idol begins and ends with judge Randy Jackson, who said in response to Steven Tyler and J-Lo leaving,

“Steven and Jennifer are truly two of the most talented and consummate professionals I’ve worked with. I was friends with them before we hopped on this crazy journey together and I have no doubt our friendships will continue long after. I will love them for life.”

The rumor mill is also hinting that Jackson might also be let go soon. If that turns out to be true that will leave only Ryan Seacrest to carry the torch.

Form the looks of the show, one would think that the producers are trying to wrap up a very successful run at a very amazing show. It will be interesting to see if they will stop while on top or just let it fade away.
