Jack Black Comically Slays On ‘Infinite Challenge’ — ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ Star Highly Praised By Korean Variety Show

Internationally, Jack Black is well-known as an actor and a comedian. Though he’s been an actor since 1982, Black started getting attention around 2000 with High Fidelity. He followed-up with other star roles in films Shallow Hal, School of Rock, Nacho Libre, and Tropic Thunder. Those roles eventually pigeon-holed him as a goofy character for comedies, but Black has shown he can play more serious roles, just like his role in The Holiday. Black even has won or been nominated for numerous film awards including two nominations for Golden Globes.

Though the aforementioned films are quite popular, Jack Black’s most popular films are in the Kung Fu Panda series. Just recently, Kung Fu Panda 3 released at the box office on January 29, 2016, but prior to that, Black was on tour promoting the animated film. One stop he made was in Korea. Though Black was only going to be in the country for a short amount of time, he decided to participate on one of Korea’s popular variety shows called Infinite Challenge. Jack Black not only comically slayed it on the show, but his professionalism earned him praise among the cast.

According to KpopStarz, Jack Black arrived in Korea on January 20, 2016, to promote his latest movie, Kung Fu Panda 3. However, he extended more appreciation for his fans by dedicating the following day to be a special guest on Infinite Challenge, a Korean variety show hosted by Running Man cast members, Yoo Jae Suk and Ha Ha, Park Myeong Su, Jeong Jun Ha, and Hwang Kwanghee. Black participated in an eclectic array of goofy games reminiscent of K-variety shows, including pillow fights and stuffing one’s face with marshmallows.

One game, which is gaining traction online as a sample clip, featured Jack Black and Yoo Jae Suk wearing stockings over their heads. They would then run to a candle lit on a table and try to blow it out. However, the other end of the stockings were tied down. As a result, Black and Jae Suk’s faces were stretched and squished in amusing ways.

There was some concern about Jack Black showing up as a guest on such short notice especially if he wanted to get paid for his appearance. However, such fears weren’t necessary. According to AllKpop, Black was more than willing to participate on Infinite Challenge and he did it for free.

“For Jack Black’s ‘Infinity Challenge’ appearance and any related matter, even from the beginning, there was no talk of appearance fees. I know that Jack Black and the ‘Infinity Challenge’ crew have been talking about [Jack Black] appearing on the show for a while. Due to schedule adjustments, they have discussed it for a while. From then, there was no talk whatsoever about appearance fees.”

That alone is praise-worthy for Jack Black, but what is even more praise-worthy is his friendliness and willingness to learn about the format of Korean variety shows. Along with the Infinite Challenge cast, Producer Kim Tae Ho claimed Black was so committed that prior issues of concerns of communication difficulties and time were unnecessary.

Kung Fu Panda 3 is now playing in theaters. As for the episode of Infinite Challenge Jack Black guest stars in, it will be available to view for free (with ads) on DramaFever.
