Selena Gomez is finally opening up about her heartbreak over Justin Bieber. And the split, says Selena, truly hurt. Now Gomez is ready to move on but not before sharing how she really feels about her famous romance with the pop star, reported Us Weekly.
Dividing it into her “Disney” life as a young star and her life today helps Selena to reflect on how she’s changed. Gomez hopes that her fans will understand that she’s ready to put the past behind her and embrace the young, vibrant woman she’s become.
“Once Disney was over, I was like: Oh, s**t,” Selena admitted. “I didn’t know what I wanted to be. I had to learn to be myself.”
One aspect of becoming herself meant saying farewell to her “momager” Mandy Teefey several years ago. Gomez moved to Los Angeles, leaving her mother, stepfather, and half-sister. Selena now views it like a teenager heading off to college. But for the singer, it was a significant milestone in her career.
And another milestone in her life was that romance between Selena and Justin, known as “Jelena,” which lasted for three years. Even after the two split, fans continued to obsess about the romance, which initially did not cause Gomez to stress.
“At first I didn’t care,” said Selena about the obsession the public has in Jelena. “To me it was: I’m 18, I have a boyfriend, we look cute together, we like that.”
But when the romance was over, Gomez was left with a broken heart and humiliation over the fact that so many people knew about her split. And Selena admits that she truly cared. In addition, without Justin to turn to, she didn’t know what to do to find someone to console her.
“I got my heart broken and I cared. Because people had no idea what was going on, but everywhere it was a million different things. I was kind of in a corner, banging my head against the wall. I didn’t know where to go.”
Gomez subsequently made peace with her former pop idol boyfriend, and Selena confessed that she still cares for him.
“I care about his health and well-being,” emphasized Gomez, 23.
However, when it comes to doing lengthy interviews about “Jelena” and their past romance, don’t ask, pleads the singer.
“I can’t do it anymore,” Selena concludes firmly.
So just how does the Biebs feel about the fact that he broke her heart? The 21-year-old pop idol feels terrible that Gomez was so hurt by their split, a source told Hollywood Life.
“It made Justin sad to read what Selena had to say about him and their relationship,” revealed the source. “He still fully regrets breaking her heart and how he handled everything. It haunts him. It haunts him to know that Selena will never truly know how he wishes he could redo the past. He admits he was young and immature.”
As for his future with Gomez? Don’t look for a return of Jelena anytime soon, according to that insider. Just as Gomez revealed that she feels she’s “exhausted” by the topic, the Biebs feels sad when it comes to thinking about and talking about Selena. But the source also emphasized that just like Gomez, he has feelings for her and cares.
“The subject of Selena will forever be bittersweet for him. She is the last person in the whole wide world that he would ever want to hurt,” added the insider.
And that’s not all that Bieber has revealed, according to Latina.
Visiting The Bert Show, the 21-year-old opened up about his 23-year-old former girlfriend. And he actually offered hints of hope for the future of Jelena, emphasizing that he still loves Selena.
“I love [Selena]. We’re friends still. We needed time to grow for ourselves and we were like, ‘Maybe we’ll come back together in the future,’ and then it ended up being so long and we just grew apart and we’re not the same people anymore.”
