Sia Dons New Wig, Heartbreaking Story Of ‘Bird Set Free’

Sia Furler—or more commonly known as Sia, the singer behind hit song “Chandelier” reveals secrets about her new album and dons a new wig on the latest episode of Ellen.

Aired last Tuesday, February 2, is the episode of Ellen with singer-songwriter Sia Furler. Sia flaunts her new and humongous wig on the Ellen set, another outrageous display characteristic of Sia. Sia’s new wig is a black and white ensemble featuring her iconic haircut, with a huge bow (also made of black and white hair) sitting on top of her head. This new wig of Sia is related to the cover of her new album, This Is Acting, featuring a young girl with a distorted face and a black and white wig (we’re assuming it’s a wig).

In December last year, we can remember that it was in Ellen, too, that Sia explained why she doesn’t take off her wig.

“Well, it’s so that I can go to Target and buy a hose if I want to, and/or if I’m in need of a restroom and I can’t find one, I could go by the side of the road and nobody would be following me with a camera trying to get ‘the shot.’ “

Privacy, mainly, is what drove Sia to start and keep hiding her face from the public using obscure headgear and wigs. However, despite the flamboyant wigs and performances, Sia continues to charm the hearts of her fans with her one-in-a-million voice and inspired songs.

In fact, just this Tuesday, Sia, yet again, appears on Ellen to share more about herself and her new album, This Is Acting. Sia reveals that This Is Acting is actually a compilation of rejects—songs that she wrote or was commissioned to write for other singers but were rejected and given back to her.

Officially released on January 29, This Is Acting is a compilation of Sia originals that were rejected by other singers. One of the songs that Sia talked about on Ellen on Tuesday was “Bird Set Free,” a song that was rejected three times by three different people. Talking about “Bird Set Free,” Sia shares the following.

“I wrote and I loved it, and I wrote it for Pitch Perfect 2 but they ended up taking a song called Flashlight so then I pitched it to Rihanna and Rihanna took that one [before rejecting it] But then Adele heard it and Adele it cut but then Adele gave it back to me and I was grateful because I had had seller’s remorse.”

Even though the people behind Pitch Perfect rejected “Bird Set Free,” they still took up another song by Sia, which was performed by Jessie J, entitled, “Flashlight.” In Adele’s case, she also rejected another Sia song besides “Bird Set Free,” entitled Alive, which became a huge hit for Sia — thank goodness, though.

This Is Acting is actually Sia’s 7th album, having recorded a majority of them pre-“Titanium.” Critics have had different reactions on This Is Acting, but overall, the new album of Sia’s shows how much talent and musical prowess the singer has running in her blood. While Sia did the “rejects” from This Is Alive for other artists, she sang them equally beautiful on the album.

Just a few weeks after its release, This Is Acting is already the U.K.’s best-selling album at the mid-week stage. Sia’s This Is Acting contains 12 songs made for various singers such as “Bird Set Free,” “Alive,” “Reaper,” “Sweet Design,” and “Broken Glass.” The song “One Million Bullets” is the only song in the album that Sia did not write for other artists.
