New ‘Suicide Squad’ Teaser Trailer Highlights The ‘Worst Heroes Ever’ [Watch]

While they might not be everyone’s first choice to save the world, DC Comics is getting ready to unveil its own group of villainous superheroes in Suicide Squad. Fans have already been treated to a number of different promotional materials for the film, including still photographs and one trailer. However, the newest trailer really captures the essence of the film by highlighting the worst of the unlikely heroes.

In fact, along with featuring an expertly mixed version of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” USA Today is reporting that the trailer includes a great look at the movie’s most infamous villains. This includes the likes of Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), The Joker (Jared Leto), and Enchantress (Cara Delevingne).

For those who are not familiar with the comics, Suicide Squad centers on a group of villains tasked with completing secret missions for the government. As long as the villains get the job done and return without trying to escape, then they are promised a reduction in prison time

Based on the new trailer, the movie will focus on a couple of iconic characters from the comics. This includes Quinn, who also doubles as The Joker’s former romance, Captain Boomerang, and Deadshot. All three of these villains, along with a few others, are given a secret assignment by a top government official named Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). The details of said assignment are not known at this time.

Considering all of the explosions and action included in the Suicide Squad trailer, their task is not going to be easy. At the same time, just because the villains are fighting for a good cause doesn’t mean that they won’t get into some mischief. This is clearly shown in the trailer when Quinn decides to bust through a store front and steal some jewelry.

In addition to highlighting the bad guy nature of the movie, Gizmodo is reporting that the new trailer appeals to the light-hearted elements of the group. In fact, the trailer contains a lot of fun moments, making it seem as though the movie will not be as dark as some had initially anticipated. This is in stark contrast to the tone of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is actually set in the same world.

Apart from the funnier moments, Rolling Stone has pointed out that the trailer also gives fans an idea as to just how crazy some of the members of the group are. Once again, Quinn serves as a great example of this in the clip of her debating with the voices in her head.

“I should kill everyone and escape?” she asks aloud while a group of military men look on. “Sorry, the voices – I’m kidding! That’s not what they really said.”

Aside from Quinn, the trailer also showed a few great looks at Leto’s rendition of The Joker. Although it is unclear how large a role The Joker has in the movie, Leto made quite the showing in the trailer and it appears as though he’ll have at least a few interesting scenes.

Apart from the aforementioned cast, Suicide Squad will also feature Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), and Diablo (Jay Hernandez). Ben Affleck is also set to make an appearance in the film as Batman, although he did not make it into the most recent trailer.

With the movie still a way off from its premiere date, fans can expect more trailers and teasers in the coming months.

Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayer, is set to open in theaters in August 2016.
