5 Seconds Of Summer Talk New Album And That Infamous ‘Rolling Stone’ Cover

5 Seconds of Summer have been teasing their fans about new music. The Australian boy band is back in the studio, writing new material for their upcoming album.

Just because the guys of 5 Seconds of Summer are on a break doesn’t mean that they’re going to stop making music anytime soon. Before they went on their vacation, they were on tour with Nick Jonas and Selena Gomez and headlined their Rock Out With Your Socks Out arena tour.

Just less than four months after the release of their sophomore album, Sounds Good Feels Good, 5SOS revealed to their fans on social media that they’re making some new music. Drummer Ashton Irwin shared a clip of himself announcing that he’s writing a new song.

Guitarist Michael Clifford and bassist Calum Hood played some of the songs on their Snapchat account. The band isn’t slowing down just yet because they’re embarking on a world tour that kicks off in Asia later this month.

In between recording session, 5 Seconds of Summer have also made time for karaoke night. In a Twitter video posted on Monday, Feb. 1, Clifford sang 3 Door’s Down “Kryptonite.” He also explicitly exclaimed, “[I] don’t need the f–king TV!” Also in the video, the guys sing along to The Killers’ hit song, “Mr. Brightside.”

In late January, AltPress correspondent Ryan J. Downey caught up with Ashton Irwin of 5 Seconds of Summer at NAMM to see what kind of music they’re making this time around. Irwin admitted that they didn’t have many songs written yet since they just started working on their new material.

Fans cannot forget about the time that 5 Seconds of Summer posed fully naked on the cover of Rolling Stone. The band admits that they weren’t in terrific shape when it came to stripping down for the magazine. The five guys appeared nude on the cover of the Jan. 14 issue, wearing nothing but various words scribbled all over their bodies.

Now the guys are speaking out about their infamous cover story. Irwin, 21, told E! News correspondent Sibley Scoles that he wished he bulked up for the photo shoot, after joking on Twitter that the cover was Photoshopped.

“I wish I was in a little more shape for that,” he shyly admitted. Luke Hemmings, 19, added, “We were so out of shape at that point but it’s kinda better that way, I think.”

The nude photo shoot wasn’t staged like most assumed it was. It did help give the guys a platform.

“We had like a promo trip of like a few months and then we were told that we were gonna be naked on it and then we were like, ‘Oh! OK,'” Clifford said.

This isn’t the first time that 5 Seconds of Summer has posed nude. Back in September 2014, the band also stripped down to nothing during a rehearsal. Hemmings shared a photo of their nude recording session on social media. And then a month earlier, Hood appeared nude in a Snapchat video that immediately went viral.

The video made its way around the internet after it appeared on Vine, leaving 5SOS fans to defend him and use Twitter hashtags like #WeLoveYouCalum and #WeDontCareCalumWeAreHereForYou.”

Hood addressed the full frontal photo on Twitter, jokingly writing, “Least ya know what it looks like now.”

But he followed up his tweet with an important message to the younger 5SOS fans, declaring, “I’m still just a teenage kid learned from mistakes.”

The band sure isn’t shy when it comes to creating some controversy. Not only were they the talk of the internet when they posed nude for Rolling Stone, but they also raised eyebrows when they bragged about sleeping with some of their fans.
