‘Fear The Walking Dead’ Season 2: Two New Cast Members Announced

As the Season 2 premiere of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead approaches, two new cast members have been announced. On top of that, AMC has decided to place the new show against HBO’s juggernaut, Game of Thrones. Which hit show will reign supreme after the dust has settled?

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information about the upcoming Season 2 of AMC’s Fear The Walking Dead as well as information about Season 1. Please proceed with caution if you have not yet viewed all available episodes or wish to avoid potential spoilers.

First up, in regard to the latest news about Fear The Walking Dead, AMC has provided a couple of new cast member announcements.

The first actor joining Fear will be Daniel Zovatto (It Follows) according to Deadline. Little information has been released about the character Zovatto will play in Season 2. However, Digital Trends offers several ideas, which include him being a druggie friend of Nick’s (Frank Dillane), a student from the school Maddie (Kim Dickens) and Travis (Cliff Curtis) work at, or a friend or family member of the Salazars. Considering Daniel (Ruben Blades) mentioned in Season 1 a potential family member being close by, perhaps this will be the family member he was talking about? Deadline also confirms Daniel Zovatto’s character will be a “recurring role,” indicating he will stick around for at least long enough fans to get attached to him.

The second cast member announcement was also made by Deadline. Arturo Del Puerto (Ride Along 2) will also join the cast of Fear The Walking Dead in Season 2. Once again, this character will be a recurring role. However, this new character at least has a name; Carlos. Deadline describes Carlos as “guarded but possesses a spiritual understanding of the world.” Just who is Carlos? And what role will he play in Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead? Considering the spiritual aspect of previous Fear cast member, Griselda Salazar (Patricia Reyes Spíndola), could these two characters be somehow related? Or is Carlos someone like Victor Strand (Colman Domingo)? Only time will tell.

Fear The Walking Dead will return with the first half of its 15 episode season 2 on April 10. It will be given two weeks to re-establish itself with its Walking Dead fan base before HBO throws its juggernaut, Game of Thrones at it on April 24. As Melty points out, HBO’s Game of Thrones has managed to devour every show pitted against it in its time slot. Will Fear The Walking Dead sink against it? Or is two weeks just enough time for Fear to rise above Game of Thrones? Considering the difference in genres for these TV shows, perhaps Fear actually has nothing to worry about in the ratings stakes at all.

Following the premiere of Season 2 of Fear The Walking Dead, Talking Dead will air. Chris Hardwick will host as usual and, according to AMC, Talking Dead will “continue its tradition of welcoming cast, producers and celebrity guests to the couch to talk about the newest episode of Fear.”

Finally, for U.K. fans, AMC will be broadcasting Fear at the same time as it does in the U.S. according to Digital Spy. This means fans can tune in early — very, very early — on Monday mornings to watch Fear at the exact same time as the U.S. This means no more worrying about spoilers on social media. U.K. fans can watch Fear The Walking Dead at 2 a.m. on Monday, April 11 and then follow up with Talking Dead at 3 a.m.
