Julianne Hough wowed us all in her portrayal of Sandy in last night’s Grease: Live. Hough’s performance was a knockout in every way. The Dancing with the Stars veteran had killer dance moves as we all expected. But both Julianne’s acting and singing brought the classic Sandy character to life in a way that impressed even the most diehard fans of Olivia Newton-John’s Sandy.
It’s been a big year for Julianne Hough. In August, the Grease: Live actress became engaged to boyfriend Brooks Laich. The couple dated for a year and a half before Hough and the Canadian hockey player decided to tie the knot. Julianne announced their engagement with an adorable photo they posted to Instagram.
Laich posted another Instagram photo yesterday, showing his support of Hough’s Grease: Live role as he expressed his excitement about her getting to fulfill a lifetime dream of portraying Sandy.
Photos and news about Julianne’s engagement ring were plentiful following their announcement. E! Online reported that Hough flashed her ring at a Taylor Swift concert, and Julianne Hough posted photos of the massive diamond on her Instagram page. Experts say Hough’s diamond appears to be about seven carats with an estimated value of about $350,000. The Grease: Live star obviously adores the ring.
Julianne had this to say about it in that E! Online report.
“The ring itself makes me feel very feminine and takes my breath away every time I look down, which I can’t stop doing, by the way. When it comes to taking it off, forget it. I’ll even wake up in the middle of the night to make sure it’s still there!”
The Grease: Live actress hasn’t revealed any wedding details so far, but Hollywood Take reported on some information she has provided. From a Mormon background, Hough says that her father wants her to get married very soon, as most Mormon couples do once they are engaged. Julianne states, however, that she and Laich both have very busy schedules and are enjoying being engaged, adding that they “plan on being together forever, so we have time.” When the Grease: Live star does wed, she will wear one of the five bridal gowns she shared with fans back in November. Hough is sure to be gorgeous in any of them.
The Grease: Live star met Brooks when a mutual friend introduced them. Julianne was working on a horror movie, which never got released, with Teddy Sears, who was friends with Laich. Brooks isn’t up on pop culture and knew Julianne only from her Juicy Fruit commercials. The Grease: Live star says that her fiancee has told her that when he saw her on those commercials, he wondered where he could meet someone like that. He’d had a crush on Julianne ever since and Sears knew it. When Teddy Sears discovered that Julianne would be starring in the horror movie with him, he contacted Laich and introduced the two.
As if a knockout performance in Grease: Live, falling deeply in love, and becoming engaged aren’t enough, Julianne Hough continues her success with two other projects. She will return to Dancing with the Stars as a judge when they begin Season 22 in March. Since DWTS began in 2007, Hough has appeared on 122 episodes, first as the dancer we all first came to love and then as a judge. Julianne also plays a “bridezilla” character in the movie Dirty Grandpa, which also stars heartthrob Zac Efron as her fiance and the legendary Robert De Niro. The Grease: Live star says that she called real-life fiance Brooks during the film to warn him about her character in Dirty Grandpa and to let him know that she is nothing like that character.
