‘Veep’ Cast Celebrates Loss At SAG Awards 2016 With Hilarious Cast Photo

The Veep cast did not accept at the SAG Awards 2016 ceremony Saturday, but they did apparently win…at losing!

Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus and several other cast members from the hit HBO series made sure they celebrated their nomination at the SAG Awards ceremony even though it did not lead to an award acceptance speech.

Taking the classic route of tactful award nominees of the past, the award-winning actress used a “politically correct” response in one particular Instagram photo caption. The picture, though, was a different story.

“Us. Now. [Sag Awards] it’s an honor to be nominated.”

As seen in the hilarious Instagram photo, most of the Veep cast members featured in the shot are holding classic “L” signs over their foreheads. Actor Tony Hale took a slightly different approach. In the cast photo, the Arrested Development actor is seen holding a wine bottle up to his mouth while most of his fellow cast members are holding L’s on their foreheads.

He also shared the same picture on Twitter. However, instead of focusing on how great it was to be nominated at the SAG Awards 2016, he simply posted a one-word caption: “Losers.”

This is definitely not the first time that the Veep cast has made their way to the SAG Awards in recent years. According to Entertainment Weekly, the stars of the hilarious HBO comedy has been nominated for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series” at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards for three consecutive years.

In addition to being nominated as member of the cast, leading actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been nominated for her own solo performance as Selina Meyer three times as well. The former star of Seinfeld and The New Adventures of Old Christine even walked away with an actual award from one of those three nominations back in 2014.

When she took the stage to accept her award, Julia Louis-Dreyfus kept the laughs coming along as she stayed in character during her acceptance speech. Right from the start, “Selina Meyer” must have forgotten that she was at the SAG Awards at all because she was obviously confused and misinformed about which award she was receiving in the first place.

“I’d like to begin by thanking of the Hollywood Foreign Press for this glorious Golden Globe… What? It’s not? I’m so sorry. Yes… Thank you again. It is important to understand that it truly is an honor just to be nominated for an Academy Award.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus even brought her Veep co-star Matt Walsh on stage with her to help out with the bit. As seen in the show on numerous occasions, Matt Walsh let Julia down once again by not having a speech prepared for her primarily because he honestly did not even think that she would win.

Matt kept those laughs coming on Twitter for the SAG Awards 2016 ceremony by making sure that his followers knew exactly why they should look for the Veep cast among the audience.

That SAG Awards moment received a lot of laughs from the audience and undoubtedly from Veep fans that watched the broadcast from home.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the Veep cast lost the ensemble category at the SAG Awards 2016 ceremony to the cast of the hit Netflix series, Orange is the New Black.

However, with the fifth season of Veep premiering in late April, chances are that the Veep cast will have a chance to win or lose at the SAG Awards 2017 ceremony as well.
