Hideo Kojima Reflects On His World Tour As He Gears Up To Work Exclusively With Sony

The creator the Metal Gear Solid series, Hideo Kojima, expressed what he has learned during his “world tour” where he discovered what different Sony PlayStation-owned studios have to offer, as it was rumored that Kojima will start an independent company licensed by Sony.

Gamespot reports that a press release issued by SCE president and global chief Andrew House said that Kojima is “delighted that he has chosen to bring his brand new project to life in partnership with PlayStation.”

Kojima said this about working with Sony.

“I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years…I cannot wait to deliver, with PlayStation, a game that will become a compelling franchise.”

As fans of the iconic game director/designer will know, Kojima has split with the flagship gaming company, Konami, who Kojima has worked under for decades.

The Inquisitr documented instances of Konami showing their discontent with Kojima. The did so by restricting the phone calls of employees working on Metal Gear Solid V, as well as their corporate emails.

Subsequently they released this statement which confirmed what everyone had suspected.

“After we finish MGSV, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami. They said their contract ends in December.”

The fallout between Kojima and the Japanese game company is also the reason why Silent Hills may never see the light of day, despite the high demand from fans after experiencing the horrifying “Playable Trailer.”

Film director/screenwriter, Guillermo Del Toro, was going to collaborate with Kojima on the project. Naturally the entire project was shot down by Konami, however Del Toro claims that he still wants to make a game with him, as the Inquisitr also quoted.

“We were in the planning stages, and it’s a shame it’s not going to happen. We were talking about really pushing the boundaries of the new consoles, and making the game really mess with your head. One of the great moments in Metal Gear [Solid] was Psycho Mantis. The idea that a game can actually interact with you, and stuff like that.”

That the company released Kojima, someone who has done so much for them over the years, seems unfortunate and unfair.

Currently, Kojima isn’t working for any major game developing companies, but his world tour is helping him familiarize himself with other game companies before getting back to work.

PlayStation blog site, Pushsquare.com, reports that Kojima has visited American studios so far, such as, Sucker Punch, Sony San Diego, Sony Santa Monica, and several other Sony-owned facilities.

He also headed to Europe during his tour to visit studios there. Pushsquare.com also notes that Kojima is doing this in preparation to create an exclusive PS4 title.

Kojima documented his travels on Twitter.

Kojima had this to say as a personal reflection at the conclusion of his world tour.

“So I may conclude that the game creation is to use the magic to this real world with the use of the latest technology. Or to say, to make the dream of the people in this real world come true by magic. But just having technology doesn’t mean you can make magic. Human resources who can maneuver technology and the environment to pull out their talent is necessary. And the most importantly the vision of the studio has to be accurate in order to embrace technology, human resources, and environment. With all these facts make the latest technology magic.”

The complete passage can be read on Gamespot.com, where Kojima goes into more detail of the magic of creating games.

Are you looking forward to Hideo Kojima getting back to work? Will he and Konami ever kiss-and-makeup?
