Myrtle Beach Shark Steals Fisherwoman’s Catch [Video]

Sharks have been in the news quite a bit lately. There was the great white that chased a kayak to the shore in Cape Cod, the boy and his pet shark in Indonesia, and the teen in Alabama who had his arm bitten off (OK, that one was an alligator.) Now the internet is buzzing about a video from Myrtle Beach which shows a huge shark jumping out of the water and stealing a fish off of a fisherman’s line.

According to Carolina Live, the video was taken in Myrtle Beach and features a bull shark.

The video was taken by William Moore, from North Carolina, outside of a home on the Cherry Grove Inlet.

Moore said:

“We couldn’t believe how it actually happened… We keep watching the video over and over and over again.”

The Cherry Grove Inlet doesn’t look like a place that you would typically find a large shark. But according to marine biologist Shannon Hughes, bull sharks are actually quite common in South Carolina. According to Hughes, bull sharks are the only sharks that can survive in fresh water and the females will swim inland to give birth.

Hughes told MSNBC:

“Larger females will actually go in and [birth] pups in fresh water. That way the pups can grow out a little, and when they’re bigger, make their way out to salt water.”
