Kate Middleton has had all eyes on her for years now, mainly due to her appearance and her consistently spot-on fashion choices when she steps out into the public eye. The Duchess has connections with some of Britain’s top designers and can request to have made whatever she wishes. When she does so, the young royal almost always ignites a new trend. Most recently, however, it’s been Kate’s younger sister Pippa who has been getting it right when it comes to attire. The Irish Examiner draws attention to Pippa’s recent ensembles and unveils the talent behind the looks.
“The Duchess of Cambridge may turn heads with her classic style, but it seems younger sister Pippa is now rivalling Kate’s timeless fashion… thanks to a little-known British designer.”
Pippa has begun opting for a signature, bespoke style as opposed to buying up big-name labels which cost a fortune. The sister to the Duchess has enlisted the talent of designer Fiona Browne.
“Designer Fiona Browne started the business in 2009, fulfilling a long-held ambition to see her fashion creations come to life after her family had grown up and left the nest. She has been joined in the business by her three daughters – Lucinda, Georgie and Clemmie – who look after the essential backroom roles from marketing to accountancy.”
It was an ensemble created by Fiona that Pippa appeared in on Christmas Day as she celebrated with her sister and Prince William, along with the Queen and additional royals. On that day, Pippa opted for a powder blue coat dress, designed by Fiona and given the same name as its designer. As the publication notes, much like “the Kate effect” when an outfit worn by the Duchess sells out in hours, the Fiona coat has proven to become extremely popular. Fiona talked about the popularity of the coat since Pippa’s appearance in it over the holidays.
“The Fiona Dress has been popular, I doubt if it’s a complete coincidence it’s flown out the door.Since Christmas there’s been a huge interest in it – I guess it’s the Middleton touch.”
The designer of the ensemble spoke in regards to Pippa wearing her piece, and is clearly elated that Middleton chose the coat as well as made it such a hit.
“She managed to find an opportunity to wear the Fiona Dress, and she could not have looked more fitting then at that church service.”
With the price of the outfit being quite reasonable at £420, it’s no wonder that Fiona has seen much interest in customers selecting it and requesting bespoke details and fittings. The designer shares about her philosophy on the bespoke lifestyle, noting why it is that her prices are kept reasonable.
“We don’t feel bespoke needs to be for the uber rich, it’s also for anyone who just want to spend a good amount on clothes that are stylish and stand the test of time. The piece that Pippa wore, it’s always going to be elegant and beautiful.”
About her mother’s inspiration, Clemmie Browne, daughter to Fiona, relayed poignant words which perfectly fit with the look of the popular Fiona coat.
“Her inspirations are figures like Audrey Hepburn and other icons from the 1960s, but she puts her own stamp on it.”
Additional praiseworthy fashion choices by Pippa recently include a number of other ensembles that have not been break-the-bank chic, yet chic all the same.
“Recent highlights from Pippa’s wardrobe have included a stylish cape by Tania Cashmere, a kaftan by Biondi for a sunshine break and smart pieces like the French Connection wool coat she chose when she joined her mother Carole at a memorial service attended by William.”
As The Daily Mail notes, Pippa, herself, recently tried her hand at fashion design and a piece that she collaborated on with Tabitha Webb, last year, has now gone up for auction.
