After the win, Cameroon head coach Mpile Martin Ndtoungou told CAF Online that his team did what it needed to do during the group stage and is now ready for the win-or-go-home match against Ivory Coast.
“We were aware of what DR Congo was capable of doing after observing their previous two games. They had scored seven goals in the previous two games and our plan was to keep a clean sheet. My team played a good game and we won it. I would simply say that we were very well prepared for the game.
“Having good performance against the toughest team in our group and drawing with Ethiopia confirms the uncertainties in football. We prepared for this game just like any other match. For the Congolese, it is the coach who can explain what happened to his team.
“The next match against Cote d’Ivoire is the knockout stage, and we don’t have any option than to win and qualify for the semi-finals.”
But Ndtoubgou also noted that his team was prone to shrink in some moments, including a draw with Ethiopia. He note that Ivory Coast is a favorite to win the tournament, but if his team can pull off the upset “then I think we will be unstoppable until the final.
“We have no option but to treat the game against Ivory Coast as a final. It’s a do-or-die moment where only a win will determine our destiny in the competition we cannot afford to lose at their expense,” Mpile told SuperSport.

“We have a mission and that mission is to stop Cameroon it is tough but not impossible as we have the capacity and the players that can rise up to any occasion though we will have to be cautious from the first whistle as they are technically and tactically very good,” he told SuperSport.
