NBA Rumors: Jay Z Could Convince Kevin Durant To Sign With New York Knicks

NBA rumors are suggesting that Jay Z could very well play a big part in convincing Kevin Durant to leave Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder via free agency to join the New York Knicks because they are a much larger market, according to ESPN.

Rumors about Kevin Durant and his upcoming free agency decision have been around for what seems like an eternity, and they are going to continue to swirl until the moment that we see him standing at a podium and revealing which NBA team that he wants to finish his career with.

There’s a chance that Kevin Durant could opt to remain with the Oklahoma City Thunder and continue his partnership with Russell Westbrook, one of the most dynamic guards to ever play in the NBA, but after seeing LeBron James leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat a couple of years ago via free agency because he wanted to enjoy the sun and the sand of south Florida, we cannot rule out the possibility of Durant leaving for greener pastures.

Since Kevin Durant is from the Washington, D.C. area, many have long linked him to the Washington Wizards, who can offer him two up and coming guards in John Wall and Bradley Beal, because there is an unproven, but widely believed notion that NBA players like to return home whenever they hit free agency.

Jay Z went from being a highly successful rapper to being the owner of a sports agency known as Roc Nation, which represents a lot of professional athletes, including Kevin Durant, who has long admired the Brooklyn native as a musician and cultural icon.

Despite his upbringing as a petty drug dealer on the rough streets of New York City, Jay Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, developed into a very bright entrepreneur, so he understands the value of having one of his top stars in Kevin Durant playing in the biggest market in the country.

The New York Knicks have surpassed the Los Angeles Lakers as the most valuable franchise in the NBA, and they are now said to be worth approximately $3 billion, so it would be wise for Jay Z or any other businessman to be associated with that gravy train.

Aside from financial reasons, Kevin Durant might benefit greatly by joining a New York Knicks roster that has risen from the dead and appears poised to make a strong run at the NBA Playoffs for the next several seasons, thanks in large part to the maturation of Carmelo Anthony and the unexpected and sudden rise of Kristaps Porzingis.

For years, Carmelo Anthony was known as a selfish player who was capable of putting up impressive offensive stats while providing no leadership or effort on defense, but a lot of that has changed now that he is 31-years-old and has the security of a massive contract that the New York Knicks gave him not too long ago.

Since Carmelo Anthony has now shown a willingness to defer to teammates, that should make the thought of signing with the New York Knicks a bit more appealing to Kevin Durant, a statement that definitely would not have been true if the former Syracuse Orangemen star had stayed the same way he used to be.

The thought of having a dynamically gifted younger teammate in Kristaps Porzingis, who has shown to the NBA that he is capable of being a building block for the New York Knicks, should be quite appealing to Kevin Durant because it means that he doesn’t have to challenge for a championship alone.
