Is E! Debuting A Series About Tom Cruise’s Hunt For A New Wife Called ‘The Arrangement’?

The new scripted drama The Arrangement sounds a lot like the Tom Cruise M.O., and how he interviewed Katie Holmes to take the position as the third Mrs. Cruise. The Arrangement will follow in the style of The Royals, and be the next scripted drama to really take off for E!, helped by the similarities to the Cruise marriage.

According to the Inquisitr, Tom Cruise has started interviewing new wives, but this time, wants to make sure that he can find a woman who will adhere to the rules of Scientology. Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, and Katie Holmes all found Cruise’s chosen religion suffocating, and headed for the hills. Cruise has put David Miscavige and other members of the Church of Scientology on the case of finding the fourth Mrs. Cruise.

Vanity Fair is reporting that after Maureen Orth wrote a detailed article about Tom Cruise’s screening process for a wife, a script for The Arrangement started making its way around. The premise sounds an awful lot like the Cruise scenario.

“Described as a modern day Cinderella story with a complicated Hollywood twist, ‘The Arrangement’ follows a young actress, Megan Morrison (Christine Evangelista), who auditions for the female lead in a summer blockbuster to star opposite the hottest male action stars, Kyle West (Josh Henderson). After Megan’s amazing audition leads to an incredible first date—and more—with Kyle, her Cinderella story takes an unexpected turn when she is presented with a contract that would change her life forever.”

And if that wasn’t enough, the main character is involved in a “self help organization.”

“Kyle’s mentor is Terrence Anderson (Michael Vartan), who runs a self-help organization called the Institute of the Higher Mind with his wife, Deann (Lexa Doig).”

The pilot is written by Mad Men writer Jonathan Abrahams, according to E! executive Jeff Olde.

Variety says that E! has ordered an entire season of The Arrangement, which sounds similar to the Cruise/Holmes relationship. It is described as a modern-day Cinderella, and it is the story of a woman presented with an incredible life changing contract to marry an actor with a powerful link to a self-help organization.

“E! viewers have shown a strong appetite for scripted fare, and we look forward to building on the success of The Royals with this exciting, new drama,” said Jeff Olde, EVP of programming and development at E! “We love the way Jonathan has juxtaposed dark storylines against a backdrop of Hollywood glitz and glamor. His unique and sinister twist on the classic fairy tale love story is a perfect addition to E!’s pop culture line-up.”

But The Arrangement is also considered an unusual modern morality tale, that will remind audiences of all things Tom Cruise.

But like Mad Men, there will be many layers, and nothing will be exactly as it seems.

In the cast photos in Deadline, the lead even resembles Tom Cruise. If fans are to read into the story of The Arrangement, Katie Holmes might have been made an offer few women could refuse. It also brings up the question of how often the lines are blurred between work and personal lives.

Would you make an “arrangement” to marry someone for other than love?
