Aretha Franklin Launching Her Own Pies/Dessert Line, Much Like ?Patti LaBelle??

Aretha Franklin is in the pie business now, thanks to Patti LaBelle successfully launching her own sweet potato pies at Walmart. Franklin will be launching her own food product line. It looks like there may be a war slowly cooking between these two, since “Ms. Patti’s gonna have to move that pie to the side!,” according to the “Respect” singer.

Those were her own exact words when she was on a phone interview with Detroit’s WDIV Local 4 news earlier this week. When asked by a correspondent if she had ever tried Patti Labelle’s Walmart sweet potato pie, she said no. Is the reason due to their alleged rivalry? Fans will have to continue speculating on that one.

But The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin won’t just be baking pies for you to eat, the legendary singer will also be adding more choices to her line of food products.

“One of them is my chili, for one,” Franklin said. “And the other, let’s see, gumbo, my gumbo. My baked chicken and dressing which will be in a loaf pan, kind of like you’ve seen in Sara Lee cakes.”

Aretha will be developing her future food products with a Phoenix-based food group.

But is there something to this alleged Aretha Franklin?, ?Patti LaBelle feud? In 2014, word was going around that the two had gotten into a physical altercation with one another, with LaBelle being arrested and charged with assault. Apparently, at a concert in Atlanta, the two ran into each other and Patti threw “a Mayweather style right and left” at Aretha Franklin, causing her to fall, “landing awkwardly.”

What brought this about was an alleged bad moment between Franklin and LaBelle the month prior at a White House concert. This whole story came from News Nerd, which is a satirical site generating fake stories. So as it turns out, none of this was true, but that certainly didn’t stop several media outlets from picking it up and running with it. Aretha Franklin herself even caught wind of it and had to shut those rumors down personally.

“I’ve never heard anything crazier — regarding myself and Patti allegedly fighting on March 20, in Atlanta,” she says in an issued statement on the morning of April 15, 2014. “On March 20, I was in New York City readying for my birthday patty (Sorry. LOL. Laughing at my typo error). I meant PARTY, which we all had one fabulous time. Patti and I are cool and we always have been. I enjoyed her at the White House. Classic Patti.”

Patti LaBelle’s Sweet Potato Pies (Patti’s Pies) have done really well. James Wright Chanel was a big fan of the dessert and raved about it in a YouTube video which gained 4.5 million views. The singer filmed himself with a box of Patti’s Pies, singing “On My Own” and “Isn’t It a Shame.” Later joking that eating the pie has turned him into Patti LaBelle.

After that, Patti’s Pies, at only $3.98 a pie, sold $1 million worth. Following that success story, LaBelle decided to put a couple more items on her dessert line at Walmart — a Vanilla Pound Cake and Caramel Cake.

The three-layered yellow cake with caramel icing became available on January 18 for $13.94. While the vanilla glazed cake is selling for $6.98. What’s more is that Patti’s sweet potato pie became available year-round.

“They have been a home run with customers this fall and are now a grand slam thanks to James’ entertaining review,” Walmart spokesman John Forrest Ales told Fox News’s Chew on This in late 2015.

Aretha Franklin has not yet set a release date for her food line.
