Back at E3 this year, Activision announced it had partnered with Rovio to bring the immensely popular Angry Birds franchise to consoles. That was all we heard at the time, but now the publisher is ready to talk specifics.

Yesterday evening, Activision announced that Angry Birds will be getting a retail console release in the form of Angry Birds Trilogy which, as the name suggests, includes the first three Angry Birds games: Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, and Angry Birds Rio.

In a recent interview with IGN, Rovio’s Executive Vice President of Games Petri Järvilehto said that Angry Birds Trilogy was built “from the ground up” with HDTVs in mind.

“You can think of the game as the ultimate collector’s edition,” Järvilehto said. “There are new cinematics, extras and other entertaining content. In addition all of the existing material has been uprezzed and re-treated for the high-resolution and big screen.”

“The backgrounds have been animated, we’ve added lighting modes, reactive backgrounds, the list goes on and on,” he added. “We believe that there are a lot of people on the consoles who appreciate a great casual game play experience. This is a game that resonates across a wide audience on many platforms.”

Angry Birds on consoles may sound good, but there’s still the matter of the price. Activision says that Angry Birds Trilogy will retail for $39.99 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, or $29.99 on the Nintendo 3DS. That’s quite a bit more than the $6 asking price for all three HD versions of Angry Birds on the iPad.

Apart from the shiny HD visuals, Angry Birds Trilogy also includes support for Microsoft’s Kinect and Sony’s PlayStation Move.

Angry Birds Trilogy doesn’t have a firm release date yet, but Activision is saying that it will be out around the holiday season.
