Cricket fans can relive their greatest memories when they watch a Master Champions League T20 cricket doubleheader streaming live online for free on Friday, with two back-to-back matches from Dubai International Cricket Stadium, featuring some of the biggest names in the sport’s recent history.
In the first match, England superstar Michael Vaughan — scorer of 633 in the 2002-2003 Ashes series — features for former England all-rounder Paul Collingwood’s Capricorn Commanders squad as they take on living legend Brian Lara of the West Indies — still the only man ever to record a score of more than 500 in an innings — and his Leo Lions.
The Commanders-Lions game will be followed on the same ground by MCL Match Number Three, with Virgo Super Kings taking on the Saggitarius Strikers. The Super Kings are skippered by former South Africa Test Captain Graeme Smith, who is still only 34 years old, in the prime of his youth compared to most of the over-40 players who comprise much of the new league’s top talent.
New Zealand spin bowling great Daniel Vettori, age 37, captains the Strikers side, less than a year after leading his country to the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup, where the Black Caps fell to neighboring Australia. Vettori’s most recent competitive cricket came last July in the Caribbean Premier League where he bowled for the Jamaica Tallawahs.
The Masters Champions League opened on Thursday with the Gemini Arabians, led by an 86 run knock off of just 43 balls by Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara, amassing an impressive 234 for three total on their way to a decisive 86-run victory over the Libra Legends, skippered by former South Africa star Jacques Kallis.
