Gina Rodriguez Donates Golden Globes Dress To Fan

Gina Rodriguez of Jane The Virgin just did the sweetest thing for a fan on social media.

Following a very sweet Twitter exchange between Gina and a young fan on January 28, Rodriguez offered to donate her stunning 2015 Golden Globes designer gown to a lucky fan who asked Gina of she could wear it to her prom.

Rodriguez’s charitable donation began when Twitter user Jessica Casanova tweeted out “@HereIsGina so would love to wear your Golden Globes dress to prom.” Rodriguez then saw the Twitter request and replied “Where do you live? I only own my first globes dress the one from last year… maybe we can make this happen.”

After clarifying that she’s from Buffalo, New York, and a quick Twitter exchange of a photo of Gina in the strapless black gown on the awards’ red carpet, Gina then tweeted to Casanova, “Let’s talk about it. I’m reaching out,” to which the very lucky fan replied, “it would be an honor to wear it, its beautiful.”

Last year, InStyle confirmed that Gina Rodriguez’ gown, which featured a unique delicate lace bottom, was created by world famous design house Badgley Mischka and described by the fashion site as a “crepe column with pretty macrame detailing at the skirt.”

It’s unclear how much the stunning strapless designer gown is actually worth, but it undoubtedly holds a number of precious memories for Rodriguez.

Gina actually wore the dress to her first ever Golden Globe Awards in 2015, where she beat out huge names including Lena Dunham, Edie Falco, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Taylor Schilling to win the prestigious acting award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. Gina’s big win also marked a pretty big milestone for The CW network, as it marked the first time the channel had ever won one of the prestigious statues, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Gina was also highly praised for the inspirational acceptance speech she made when accepting the hardware in the gown back in January, 2015, where she began by thanking God “for making [her] an artist.”

The star then went on to thank her parents when receiving the award, before beautifully acknowledging her Latin heritage. “This award is so much more than myself, it represents a culture that wants to see themselves as heroes,” Gina said at the time.

Rodriguez then closed out her emotional speech by telling the crowd, “My father used to tell me to say every morning, ‘Today is going to be a great day. I can and I will.’ Well, Dad — Today is a great day. I can and I did.”

But while Gina appears to be pretty quick to give away her precious gowns to lucky fans, Rodriguez confessed to InStyle last year that she actually struggles when it comes to finding dresses to suit her body on the red carpet because she’s not a “sample size.”

“I definitely don’t have a sample-size body, and I’m okay with that because I love my body,” Rodriguez told the fashion site following the 2015 Golden Globe Awards, where she had nothing but high praise for her stylist Lauren Rodriguez after describing her as being “amazing” and knowing exactly how to dress her figure. “I’ve been to fittings where I don’t fit into 75 percent of the dresses, and I’m like, ‘What’s wrong with me?’ No, there’s nothing wrong me—these just don’t fit,” Gina said.

“It’s about being conscientious of the situation,” Gina Rodriguez continued, about finding red carpet gowns. “To have someone who knows my body and brings me options that will only fit me, it builds my confidence.”
