Zayn Malik Claims Fan Should Not Rule Out A One Direction Reunion, Says It Could Happen ‘If Time Was Right’

Although Zayn Malik is currently working on his upcoming solo album, the One Direction alum can’t escape rumors of a possible reunion with his former band. With that in mind, Malik recently sat down with the Sunday Times and discussed the likelihood that One Direction will be brought together once again.

While Malik did not promise that his former band would ever be reunited, he appeared open to the possibility. In fact, Malik admitted that he would be willing to consider it if the timing was just right, which is definitely good news for fans.

“Who knows?…I don’t know,” Malik shared after being asked about a possible reunion. “If the time was right and that was the thing to do, then I would make that decision when it came around.”

According to Independent, Malik is still on good terms with his former band members. While this is definitely a good sign for those that want to see the band reunited, Malik admitted that they still have a difference in style that would need to be corrected before they could work together on anything new.

“I genuinely enjoyed [the band] and did whatever I could to be myself within that, but it’s just not where I sit as a musician,” he stated. “The other boys’ taste was generally indie rock. It’s good music, but I don’t f**k with it. That was never cool where I was from.”

It’s been ten months since Malik announced that he was leaving One Direction. Since then, the singer and songwriter has been busy working on his very first solo album. In preparation for the release of the project, Malik is set to publish his first single, titled “Pillowtalk,” on January 29.

In speaking about his new direction in music, Malik revealed that his newest offering will provide a glimpse at where he is at musically. For those expecting a reflection of his former days in the boyband, his newest single will revolve around sex that is both “dirty and raw.”

“Everybody has sex, and it’s something people want to hear about,” Malik explained. “It’s part of everybody’s life, a very big part of life! And you don’t want to sweep it under the carpet. It has to be talked about.”

With Zayn Malik set to venture off into a completely different genre of music, it does not appear as though One Direction will be headed for a reunion any time soon. However, that doesn’t mean that the group will never come back together, which Malik clearly seemed open to. Hopefully, their recent break up is more of a short hiatus than anything else.

Meanwhile, as fans continue to mourn the break up of One Direction, Digital Spy is reporting that the group’s final music video is getting ready to be released. As should be expected, the group’s last hit together will feature plenty of emotion as they offer fans a final goodbye.

“I just the video last night and, God, it makes you feel emotion,” Simon Cowell recently explained to Capital. “When that drops you’re going to see another lease of life for that record.”

The name of the song in video is “History,” which the group performed during their appearance on The X Factor in 2015. Considering how the single made it to the sixth spot on the charts, and given Cowell’s praise, fans are likely in for one last treat from the group before they go their separate ways.

Over the course of the band’s life, One Direction managed to put together 14 songs that made it into the top ten slots in the U.K. charts.
