‘Real Housewives’ Family Rocked By Death: ‘This Story Didn’t End As We Had Hoped’

The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Caroline Manzo hasn’t been on the show for quite some time, but she’s shared her life with the world in her family spin-off, Manzo’d With Children. Fans saw how Lauren Manzo married Vito Scalia in the fall season of the show as the two got married last summer. And because they are now family, Caroline and her children were eager to help out when one of Vito’s family members went missing over the weekend. This family member has no connection to The Real Housewives of New Jersey.

According to a new Bravo report, this Real Housewives of New Jersey story doesn’t end well. This week, the entire family had rallied together to find the missing Matthew Genovese, who had last been seen Saturday night after leaving McSwiggan’s Pub in Hoboken, New Jersey. Rather than going home, he had left the bar behind and headed towards the river. It was here he was later found.

“Thank you so much for sharing and prayers. Unfortunately this story didn’t end as we had hoped. [Matthew’s] body was found earlier today,” The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Caroline Manzo revealed on Instagram, adding, “May God rest his soul and give his family the strength they need to get through this tragedy.”

Matthew’s family had reported him missing on Monday after he didn’t show up for work on Wall Street. His family desperately looked for him, and Caroline and her children all shared posters of the missing man. For a few days, the Real Housewives of New Jersey stars asked for help, and police were quick to do a search in the area where he was last week. During the search, a police officer found Matthew’s wallet with all of his cash, credit cards, and ID inside in the snow near the waterfront around Pier A where he was later found. It is unclear what he was doing in the area, but since he had all of his cash, robbery isn’t something the cops are pursuing.

Police are now saying that they are not speculating as to what went wrong, and why he was floating in the water. There is currently an ongoing investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, according to NJ.com.

On Tuesday, The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Caroline Manzo posted a plea for help, asking people to come forward. “Any help would be appreciated. This is a relative of my son-in-law @vitoscalia3,” she wrote in a post that was shared by the family, including Vito Scalia.

Vito himself hasn’t said much about the disappearance, but one can imagine he’s heartbroken. The Real Housewives of New Jersey stars continued to post ads and personal posts after the body was discovered.

According to NJ.com, a motive has yet to be determined. It is possible that he merely slipped and fell into the water, but police are not giving any details at the moment. Hoboken Police Chief Kenneth Ferrante said there were no obvious signs of foul play where his wallet was found in the snow with the cash and credit cards still in it, near the water’s edge. No word on whether Matthew was drunk at the time and fell in the ice cold water.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey family hasn’t said much after Caroline’s sad news, but one can imagine that the family wants to deal with this tragedy in private. Manzo didn’t clarify how Matthew was related to Vito, and she merely said that it was his family.
