‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ News: Darth Vader To Have Large Role

Production on Rogue One, the Star Wars spinoff that is due to be the first post-The Force Awakens release, is currently ongoing.

Obviously, because of the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there are huge expectations on the shoulders of Rogue One, and news regarding the film is being clambered for by fans of the franchise.

The latest speculation to emerge regarding Rogue One revolves around one of the most popular characters, not just in the history of Star Wars, but in the history of cinema: the one and only Darth Vader.

It’s now been speculated that Darth Vader, who would at least make a brief appearance in Rogue One, will actually feature prominently in the blockbuster.

JoBlo provided a whole hoard of new details on Star Wars: Rogue One, which they insist are all true. The most intriguing of which revolved around Darth Vader, with the publication confirming that he will be involved in a much larger role than originally thought.

They were unable to provide any further information regarding Darth Vader’s involvement or if James Earl Jones will once again record the famous vocals of the ominous foe.

Back in July, Birth Movies Death reported that Darth Vader would be present in Star Wars: Rogue One. However, at the time, they insisted that he wouldn’t be the main antagonist but would instead just be pulling the strings from behind the scenes. They did insist that he’d appear on screen, though, but their prediction was that it would be as a hologram or projection.

Other news to have emerged regarding Star Wars: Rogue One courtesy of JoBlo have insisted that new versions of Tie Fighters and AT-ATs will feature, while the stormtroopers will actually wear all-black in the film. In fact, they won’t actually be referred to as stormtroopers. Instead, they’ll be known as Death Troopers.

It was then also revealed that Rogue One features a droid that has been described as a “scene stealer,” which has two legs and is a dark color. The droid has also been reported as having long, gangly arms and legs, and that they won’t look like any droid that has populated the Star Wars universe before.

As the Inquisitr previously reported yesterday, Making Star Wars also confirmed that Darth Vader will be involved in several of the action sequences in Rogue One. According to Making Star Wars, news regarding the action sequences are still firmly under wraps, but director Gareth Edwards is keen on creating sequences that are truly unique.

“The action sequences filmed are unknown, but there was work pitching the different ways Darth Vader could kill rebels on a battlefield with the Force and his lightsaber. The storyboard ‘pitches’ showing decapitated rebels, people being dismembered by Vader throwing his sword, levitating bodies to make human shields and so on. The art was more violent than what we’ve seen Darth Vader do on screen before.”

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the latest addition to the Star Wars universe. It will be set in between 2005’s Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope and will follow a gang of Rebel fighters that come together in order to try and steal the plans for the Death Star, which the Galactic Empire are on the brink of building.

Rogue One will be released on December 16, 2016, and it will star Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelson, and Alan Tudyk. It will be followed by Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is now due out on December 15, 2017.
