GFriend Welcomes ‘Snowflake’ With Title Track ‘Rough’ — Announces Fan Club Name At 3rd Mini-Album Showcase

Approximately one year ago, GFriend made their debut with their mini-album, Season of Glass, along with its title track “Glass Bead.” Amazingly, the rookie K-pop idol girl group was a success given the fact it was signed to a smaller label that didn’t have as much pull as the big three (SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment). However, GFriend truly found their break when a video of them performing “Me Gustas Tu” on a wet stage went viral. Suddenly, GFriend became South Korea’ sweethearts.

Now GFriend has made their return with their third mini-album titled Snowflake. They heralded it in with its title track, “Rough,” at their comeback stage. Not only that, but they finally revealed to their fans the official name of their fan club.

The music video for “Rough” was released on Sunday, January 24, 2016 on the 1theK YouTube channel. According to GFriend’s label Source Music, “Rough” will continue with the high school theme the K-pop idol group utilized with “Glass Bead” and “Me Gustas Tu.” The track also utilizes an up-tempo which is similar to the previous two songs as well. What differs is the track’s lyrics in which “Rough” is about holding onto love despite the lovers drifting apart. To help enforce somberness of the track, the music video uses darker colors. The girls are wearing dark navy blue dresses while scenes seem to be viewed through a shade. Despite the melancholy direction, “Rough” has proven to be popular with almost one million as of the publication of this article.

One day after the release of their music video for “Rough,” GFriend made their stage comeback, which was showcased live over Navev’s V app, as reported by Soompi. They performed their hit songs, “Glass Bead” and “Me Gustas Tu,” followed by “Rough.” After the performances of the three songs, they showed a very special video to their fans in attendance which they themselves filmed. During the video, each member — Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji – called their fans their “buddies.” It was soon revealed that would be the name of their official fan club.

To conclude their comeback, a cake was brought out to celebrate GFriend’s one year anniversary. The members than collectively told everyone that, if it weren’t for the fans supporting them for the past year, they wouldn’t be where they are now. Apparently, “Buddies” are very dedicated to GFriend, as they all held up signs, showing a supportive message that made Yerin burst into tears.

“You’ve worked hard for the past year! Good luck with ‘Rough!'”

Right now, GFriend will continue with promotions for Snowflake and its title track “Rough.” It is unknown what they will work on afterwards. So far, GFriend has only worked on extended plays, which are known as mini-albums in Korea. With that in mind, making their next project an album makes sense. Also, it will be an excellent way to introduce a new concept given that Source Music says Snowflake will be the last time GFriend uses the high school theme.
