Miley Cyrus Returns To TV Acting Amid Liam Hemsworth Reunion: Is The Old Miley Back?

We haven’t seen Miley Cyrus in a starring TV role since her Hannah Montana days, but that’s all about to change.

On Monday, Deadline revealed that Cyrus has been cast in a starring role in Woody Allen’s upcoming project, which will be released exclusively on Amazon Video. The project, which marks Allen’s first foray into TV, has not yet been titled. The series is currently slated for six 30-minute episodes.

Deadline also revealed that Cyrus will star alongside 83-year-old Elaine May and Allen himself. The show is expected to be set during the 1960s. Filming is scheduled to begin in March.

The series will mark the first time that Cyrus has appeared in a TV show since Hannah Montana went off the air in 2011. The show, which she filmed when she was a teenager, ran for four seasons.

In the years since, Miley has primarily worked as a musician, often raising eyebrows with her surprising and shocking antics, both on and off the stage. The 23-year-old former Disney star has never been shy about her showcasing her body or her opinions, though in recent years she’s kept her love life relatively hush-hush.

Until recently, that is. Cyrus has made headlines as of late after she and former ex-fiancee Liam Hemsworth appear to have rekindled their relationship. According to E! Online, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth recently reconnected in Australia and are once again planning on getting married. The couple previously split in 2012 after an engagement. According to E! Online, Cyrus and Hemsworth have reunited because, now, the timing is right. Before, the two youngsters simply had to mature a bit. Nevertheless, the Hunger Games actor never stopped loving his “Wrecking Ball” of a woman, a source told E! Online.

“Liam never stopped loving Miley. Liam and Miley’s timing was just off the first time they were engaged, many things played into them calling it off. They both needed to grow up and figure themselves out more.”

Fans can’t help but notice some of the parallels to her old life Miley has made as of late. Not only has she hooked back up with her former flame, but she’s also returned to TV. Additionally, Miley has begun to grow out her shortened locks which, Hollywood Life reports, is not an effort to change her look for Hemsworth.

Instead, Cyrus wanted to go with a new look for the new year, a source told Hollywood Life. Additionally, the grown-out hair is supposed to help her in her new acting role, the media outlet reported.

“She is looking to change her look up for the new year and get back into some acting but is determined to go short again when the time is right. Her look is not for a guy, not for Liam. It is all career oriented.”

Old hair, old fiancé, old career. Is the old Miley Cyrus back?

Reports don’t say for certain, but it seems like the old Miley is long gone. The entertainer has grown and developed in many ways in recent years, and it just doesn’t seem logical that the singer-actress could ever go back to being a sweet, Disney star teenager. Instead, a more mature Miley is likely around to stay, and it appears that is just the way fans like it.

What do you think? Do you think flashes of the old Miley Cyrus are returning? Why or why not?
