Cris Cyborg Mocks ‘SNL’ Host Ronda Rousey, Claims She ‘Still Needs Help’

MMA star Cris Cyborg apparently did not hesitate to take a jab at Ronda Rousey Saturday via social media.

The 30-year-old mixed martial artist used Twitter to mock Ronda as she hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time this weekend. Instead of insulting Rousey in a lengthy Twitter rant, Cris Cyborg decided to take a simpler route by only mentioning the 28-year-old former UFC champion in a single tweet.

Chances are that Cris Cyborg (born Cristiane Venancio) was not just talking about Ronda’s attempt at stand-up comedy during her opening monologue on Saturday Night Live. It was more than likely an effective double-punch combo.

The first “jab” may have been aimed at her comedy — or lack thereof — during her opening monologue and overall performance as the Saturday Night Live host. As Ronda mentioned during her monologue, her first gig on the hit NBC sketch comedy series also marked the first time she had been featured on live television outside of the UFC ring.

With the exception of the pre-recorded clips and sketches, it was evidently clear that Ronda was nervous at different points throughout the broadcast. Perhaps a little more “help” or assistance may have boosted the quality of the overall show — including Ronda Rousey’s performance.

However, the second “jab” of Cris Cyborg’s comment likely had nothing to do with comedy whatsoever. On the contrary, chances are that Cyborg was referring to Ronda Rousey’s inability to stand up without help after getting knocked out by Holly Holm last November.

Ronda Rousey used part of her opening monologue on Saturday Night Live to publicly address her loss to Holly Holm. Ronda explained that the bout “was a fight that Holly deserved to win” and she “just wanted to take a minute to sincerely congratulate her.”

According to People magazine, that congratulatory moment was brought to an abrupt end moments later by Ronda when she sliced her hand in the air and said “That’s enough.”

It was not very surprising that Cris Cyborg had something to say about Ronda Rousey performing on Saturday Night Live –– especially to longtime UFC fans that have followed their blossoming rivalry over time.

While promoting her August 2015 fight against Bethe Correia in an interview with Howard Stern, Ronda said that Cris Cyborg was just “roids and muscle and no technique,” according to MMA Fighting.

Cris did not remain silent after Ronda made headlines with those negative comments. She opened up about Ronda in a Facebook post dated May 18, 2015 which started off with the simple phrase, “Ronda Rousey keep trash talking…”

“I now feel sorry for her. You can tell she isn’t happy with life. She…has the same grumpy face no matter what picture you see of her. In almost every interview she gives she’s talking bad about people…and the only time she ever says anything good about someone is when she is talking about herself… This is a girl with very few genuine friends.”

Cris Cyborg further claimed that the UFC “practically had to beg fighters to congratulate her on Twitter” for making the cover of Sports Illustrated.

MMA and UFC fans have eagerly been anticipating a match between Ronda Rousey and Cris Cyborg for quite some time now. However, it does not seem as if that fight will happen anytime soon. Some have said that a Cyborg vs Rousey match is unlikely simply because of the weight difference. Rousey would have to upgrade her weight class to 140 pounds in order to qualify for a bout against Cris Cyborg.

According to Cris’ Facebook post, her own history of past mistakes had nothing to do with Ronda’s decision to avoid making that transition. Cris Cyborg believed that it had “everything to do with her self doubt.” She further stated that “if the fight finally does happen,” Cris would be primarily focused on breaking Ronda’s spirit “for all the mean things she has said” about her.
