Madonna’s ‘Rebel Heart Tour’ Brings ‘Evita’ To Miami

Madonna fans were in for a special surprise at one of the final stops of the Rebel Heart Tour in Miami Saturday evening. Not only did she start the show at a decent time (in comparison to other shows), but she performed “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” from her 1996 hit movie Evita for the first time ever in America.

Madonna’s performance in the movie musical is her most critically acclaimed to date. Even though she didn’t receive on Oscar nomination for her performance as Evita Peron, she did receive a Golden Globe award for Best Actress. The movie was a game-changer for Madonna. It’s hard to believe that she was considered a fading pop star in most of the early 1990s, but the movie helped Madonna win back a lot of her audience after she lost them due to a “moral” backlash that would be laughable to many now.

In any case, almost 20 years later, Madonna told the sold-out crowd in Miami that she had wanted to sing this song during the whole Rebel Heart Tour, but couldn’t find the right place to sing it. Perhaps, since Miami has a huge Latino population, Madonna felt comfortable. And, as you can see in the video, the audience was absolutely thrilled.

Twitter went nuts over the Madonna’s performance of the song in Miami.

Miami gave Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour an excellent review and thought the show was more personal than usual.

“But on Saturday night at a packed AmericanAirlines Arena in downtown Miami, Madonna managed to deviate from the mostly rigid set list and staged theatrics of her Rebel Heart Tour to add a heartfelt, personal touch for her onetime hometown crowd.”

The review gave special props to the performance of “La Isla Bonita,” where Madonna had a Gypsy band and did flamenco-style dancing. They also liked her toned-down performances as well.

Madonna has been getting some backlash lately for starting her shows around 10:30 p.m. People say that she should go on stage earlier for a show that has an 8 p.m. time on the ticket. While going on stage an hour and a half before midnight is definitely pushing it, Madonna does have an opening act and the tickets do indicate that.

Perhaps the later-than-usual start times may have something to do with the custody battle Madonna is experiencing with her son Rocco. According to People, Madonna’s fans have been writing her messages of support and she posted her appreciation for the support on Instagram. Madonna is scheduled to appear in court on February 3. Judging from all her social media messages and her getting tearful at recent concerts, Madonna has had a very tough time dealing with the recent events in her family.

Madonna is scheduled to play Miami once again on Sunday evening. She will then go to Puerto Rico for two shows there. Afterwards, Madonna will play shows in Tapai, Bankok, Tokyo, Hong Kong and others before eventually heading to Australia in March. Fans hope that even though this tour is the final one in Madonna’s deal with Live Nation, that she’ll continue touring in the future.
