Ian Somerhalder & Nina Dobrev: ‘Vampire Diaries’ Fans Yearn For Reunion, And Their Campaign May Actually Work
Ian Somberhalder and Nina Dobrev broke up more than a year ago, but as fans take to Twitter to plead for the two to get back together, there are rumors that Ian’s marriage could be suffering as a result and signs that the campaign might actually work.
The two Vampire Diaries stars were a favorite of fans both on-screen and off, and many were heartbroken last year when they called it quits. Many took it so hard that they decided to send a message, and this week flooded Twitter with pictures, memes, and requests that their characters Damon and Elena get back together on the show.

As Celeb Dirty Laundry noted, the fans’ wishes are taking a toll on Nikki Reed.

It’s difficult to tell whether there is any truth to the rumor that Nikki Reed is jealous, or that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev could be considering getting back together. The report doesn’t have any named sources, and in fact appeared to have no source giving the information that Reed is jealous. So take it with a big grain of salt.
But there may be real evidence that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev are on better terms. The pair reportedly bumped into each other at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards after party, where Ian was with Nikki Reed and Nina Dobrev was with her boyfriend, Dancing With The Stars judge Austin Stowell.
A source said that Nina seemed quite happy with her new man.
“Nina and her boyfriend were super cute,” a source told People magazine, via KPopStarz. “They were snapping pics on their phone and in the photo booth. They seem super happy together, and they have a really genuine connection. They kissed and held hands a few times, but he gave her her space and took a step back to watch her enjoy her special night with her closest friends.”
While there appears to be little chance that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev will get back together in real life, Vampire Diaries fans could still see them together in another way. Sources say the two remain on good terms, and the friendship has kept rumors alive that Nina could revive her character Elena, setting up what could be a reunion with Somerhalder’s Damon.
There could be good motivation for The Vampire Diaries to reunite Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev. It’s clearly a favorite among fans, and in the past, social media campaigns (like those to save the show Community) have actually been able to work and convince network executives to listen to fans.
