‘Vikings’ Season 4: New Cast Member, New Lagertha Clip, But Has Filming Started For Season 5?

History Channel’s Vikings returns with season 4 on February 18. In the lead up to this epic event, there has been a slew of promotional items. Let’s have a look at all the latest Vikings teasers.

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information and speculation about the upcoming season 4 of Vikings. Please proceed with caution if you wish to avoid spoilers.

Season 4 of Vikings has been renewed for an extended 20-episode season this year. This means Vikings fans will feel like they are getting two seasons for the price of one — especially since the season will be split into two parts like AMC does with The Walking Dead. The first half of the season will premiere on February 18. However, there is no news yet as to when the second half of season 4 will premiere.

For those who have been itching to get some new information about Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), History Channel have just released a season 4 teaser video featuring her. The clip is very similar to the one released recently featuring her ex-husband, Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel). While Ragnar’s clip focused on death and whether he would be able to enter Valhalla, Lagertha’s clip focuses on life as well. For those of you who were intrigued about the image Katheryn Winnick released on Instagram a while back, that image is included in the teaser clip although there is still little explanation as to why she is standing in a room filled with vikings lying on the floor.

For fans who still don’t think an extended season 4 is enough Vikings for one year, here’s an image Katheryn Winnick posted to Instagram last week showing that filming has started already — potentially for season 5. While there has been no official confirmation yet that Vikings has been renewed for a fifth season, it was assumed filming for season 4 was completed at the end of 2015.

But wait, there’s another teaser clip for season 4 of Vikings. This clip is called “Day Of Reckoning” and centers on the vikings returning to Paris. Ragnar is featured in this clip, so one can assume he returns again. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds considering his brother, Rollo (Clive Standen) is set to marry into the French royal family, effectively changing sides and pitting himself against his own blood.

There has been little news on new cast members for season 4 of Vikings since The Hollywood Reporter announced Peter Franzen, Jasper Paakkonen, and Dianne Doan had signed on. Peter Franzen will play King Harald Finehair, another potential threat to Ragnar Lothbrok. Paakkonene will play Harald Finehair’s younger brother, Halfdan the Black, and Dianne Doan will play Yidu, an oriental slave that will intrigue Ragnar. Well now Josh Donaldson, the Toronto Blue Jay’s third baseman, has just spilled the beans on the fact that he will play a guest role in the upcoming season 4 of Vikings, tweeting a short video about the part.

Variety has reported that Josh Donaldson will play “Hoskuld, a viking warrior of great skill.” However, his role will not appear until later in the year, possibly in the second half of season 4.

If an extended season of Vikings is till not enough to keep you satisfied, Entertainment Weekly just announced that Titan Comics is set to release a new comic book series based on Vikings next spring. EW released the following information about the Vikings comic.

“Written by Cavan Scott (Doctor Who) and illustrated by Staz Johnson (Wolverine, Spider-Man), the comic will focus on Ragnar Lothbrok and his men as they conquer new adventures and new challenges, set in season 3.”
