‘Sense8’ Season 2 Spoilers: Tina Desai Starts Filming, Release Date Pushed Back To August

The release date of Sense8 Season 2 is reportedly pushed back to August, if the latest rumors are to be believed. While it has been speculated that the second season will premiere in June, many pointed out that the target date was simply unrealistic.

The cast and crew of Sense8 has already started filming for Season 2. According to Chicago Tribune, Atmosphere Casting took to Facebook in search of willing extras who will play the role of pedestrian and park goers. The post, however, was soon taken down.

The Wachowski siblings will reportedly film in the North Side of Andersonville neighborhood this weekend. This will not be the first time that Sense8 will film in Chicago, during the early parts of the first season they also chose to shoot in the same setting.

In December, Aml Ameen, who plays Capheus in Sense8, confirmed that they will “begin season 2 in 10 days.” Many assumed that this meant that the pre-production is already finished and they will already start filming.

Sense8 creator/writer/executive producer J. Michael Straczynski, however, explained that they will merely shoot footages featuring the holidays. He insisted that they have yet to start filming for Season 2.

Tina Desai, who plays Kala Dandekar, also tweeted that she is excited to film for the second season. After Christmas, the actress flew straight to Berlin to start shooting.

Fans of Sense8 were definitely thrilled with the news. While Season 2 is still in its early stage, many believed that an August release date is absolutely feasible.

According to Fansided, it took Netflix approximately seven months to shoot the first season. Production reportedly began in June 2014 and ended by January 2015.

Fansided author Bryce Olin even pointed out that an August 8 release date will be perfect for Sense8 Season 2, given its significance.

“If I had to guess, I would guess the release date of Sense8 Season 2 will be Monday, August 8, 2016, which is also one year after the Sense8 Season 2 renewal announcement and another sensate birthday.”

Although Sense8 was able to amass quite a following, Netflix took their time to renew the series. Some speculated it was merely a tactic to build the anticipation for Season 2.

On the other hand, others pointed out that Netflix was actually weighing their options, as the show was quite expensive to produce. In the first season, the cast and crew traveled to eight different countries and shot in nine cities.

According to The Richest, Sense8 was the most expensive Netflix original series ever made. The outlet held that it took $100million to $200 million per season.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos claimed that the show was “every bit as big, if not bigger, than their feature films,” including Jupiter Ascending ($176 million) and Cloud Atlas ($102 million).

Although the renewal has been announced much later than expected, Sense8 producer J. Michael Straczynski admitted that they already created a five-year arc for the series. Whether it was renewed or canceled, he held that it was important for them to know which direction they were heading.

“We have a rough structure for five years. Should Netflix decide to do it, we already have the second season worked out in great detail. And then, we have rough notes for the next three years, beyond that.”

With a complete story for Sense8 season 2, fans believed that it will only be a matter of time before the release date is announced. Although there are still a lot of things to consider, many continue to speculate than an August premiere is well within reach.
