New 4-Inch iPhone Model Coming In March To Be Called the iPhone 5SE: Reports

Of late, we have been hearing reports about the possibility of Apple releasing a new version of its iPhone with a 4 inch display.

The device was supposedly called the iPhone 6c initially. In fact, a video purported to be that of the unreleased iPhone model was circulated on social media yesterday. We have embedded the video below. As you might have already guessed by now, this 4-inch iPhone is targeted at people who are still uncomfortable at the prospect of holding a larger iPhone and loved the smaller dimensions of the “original” iPhone models of the yesteryears.

The phone shown in the video looked liked a shrunken iPhone 6s and revealed nothing more. A day later, we now have 9To5Mac reporting that the video is fake. They go on to add that instead of making a smaller iPhone 6s model, Apple is trying to upgrade the iPhone 5s model which they are still selling now. The iPhone 5s was released by Apple back in 2013 and it is still being sold in various markets across the world as an affordable alternative to the existing iPhone models.

The upgraded iPhone 5s is likely to be called the iPhone 5SE with the SE standing for “Special Edition”, a new report suggests. There were some reports earlier about the upcoming iPhone 7 reportedly going for a makeover and ditching the existing iPhone 6/6s look. So, there is also a chance that the next generation iPhone would look like an enlarged iPhone 5s. The Inquisitr had also recently reported about the possibility of Apple removing the ubiquitous 3.5mm audio jack on the upcoming iPhone 6, 6s replacement.

Meanwhile, the new iPhone model is reportedly being termed the “N69” internally by Apple. The official name of the device as mentioned earlier, would most likely be the iPhone 5SE. The iPhone 5SE is likely to feature a massively upgraded processor, software and features. In fact, we already have a list of features that are expected to make it to the iPhone 5SE

Starting off with the design the new iPhone is likely to ditch the shiny edges and receive a curved glass treatment seen on the iPhone 6 and the 6s. The camera would be upgraded and the phone is likely to receive the 8 megapixel main camera and the 1.2 megapixel front camera from the iPhone 6s with support for larger panorama. It would also get a barometer for tracking elevation. The iPhone 5SE would also support Apple Pay and there, NFC would be featured as well.

Under the hood, the processor would see an upgrade as well with the iPhone 5SE using the A8 and M8 chips for number crunching. On the connectivity front, it would feature Bluetooth 4.2, VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) and 802.11ac WiFi chips from the iPhone 6s. Another feature it would get from the iPhone 6s is the love photo feature and the same color options that would include Silver, Space Gray, Gold, & Rose Gold. It is unlikely that the iPhone 5SE would get the 3D touch feature – thanks to the space the taptic engine requires.

With the arrival of the iPhone 5SE, Apple is also likely to finally discontinue making and selling the iPhone 5S. The new iPhone 5SE is reportedly already under production and the device, like already mentioned, could be unveiled in March with a release scheduled some time in April.

Note that all these are rumors at this point in time and for the same reason, please do take these reports with the traditional pinch of salt. Anyway, would you be interested to buy the iPhone 5SE if and when it is released?
