Ian Somerhalder & Nina Dobrev Make Up: Ian To Get Nina Back On ‘Vampire Diaries’?

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev’s relationship hasn’t been the best over the past couple of years. The former couple’s relationship allegedly got so bad after their break up that it was the deciding factor in Dobrev’s decision to depart The Vampire Diaries. However, all that could be turning around.

According to the Parent Herald, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev may be speaking again and working on their relationship. Not their romantic relationship, of course, as Ian is married to Twilight actress Nikki Reed, but the reconciliation could lead to Dobrev’s return to The Vampire Diaries, at least that’s what fans are hoping for.

It was recently reported that Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder were on better terms after the two, along with Ian’s wife, Nikki Reed, met up at a Golden Globes after-party and were reportedly seen being more than civil to one another. While Ian attended the event with his wife, Nina came solo, although she does have a boyfriend in Austin Stowell, an actor who has appeared in films such as Whiplash and Bridge of Spies.

Vampire Diaries fans have been wanting Nina Dobrev to return to the series as her character Elena Gilbert since she left in the Season 6 finale. Elena is currently in a deep sleep, which is linked to her best friend Bonnie’s life. So until the time that Bonnie dies, Elena will remain at rest. Elena’s body is currently in a coffin and being protected by her Mystic Falls friends. Her absence is felt on the show, but the character is still very much a part of the storyline.

While Vampire Diaries viewers have held out hope of a Nina Dobrev return and have been watching Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley carry the brunt of the storyline, Nina says that she isn’t likely to return to the series, as that part of her life is over after making the difficult decision to leave the series after six seasons.

Meanwhile, showrunner Julie Plec says she would welcome Nina Dobrev back with open arms at any moment to join cast members Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley.

“Yes, I miss her deeply and would take her back in an instant if she called and said, ‘Hey, can I come back and play?'”

However, Julie claims that writing for Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley’s characters, Damon and Stefan Salvatore, has been so much fun.

“It just feels good to be able to tell the story about two brothers who are more bonded, and it’s just been so fun to write this year. The writers, we’re just enjoying the hell out of it.”

It seems that no matter what happens between Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev in their personal relationship, it isn’t likely that Nina would return to The Vampire Diaries as Elena Gilbert. She’s made it pretty clear that she’s moved on from the show and wants to explore new things in her career, including films. Nina has already appeared in Perks of Being a Wallflower and We Are Cops and is expected to be seen on the big screen more in the future.

However, even if Nina Dobrev doesn’t return to reunite with Ian Somerhalder in future seasons of The Vampire Diaries, fans are still hoping that she’ll care about the character that made her famous enough to at least make a cameo on the series finale of the show, whenever that may be, because fans would want to know that Damon and Elena got their happy ending. How can she not come back at least for a scene or two to give the fans closure?
