??Ice Cube?, NWA ?Reunion At 2016 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival?

Ice Cube is planning a reunion with N.W.A at this year’s 2016 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The rapper has made the reveal himself, The Huffington Post reports. Ice Cube has made an appearance on The Talk this week, and is still promoting his comedy Ride Along 2.

While going through the usual celebrity talk, Cube mentioned some ideas he has for the big Indio, California concert.

“I’ve got some tricks up my sleeves,” says Ice Cube. “I’m gonna try to bring the members of N.W.A together. Give everybody a little history lesson on Ice Cube and N.W.A, West Side Connection, everything I’ve been doing over the years. We have some great visuals. Same night Guns N’ Roses get back together. It’s gonna be a great night.”

Ice Cube and N.W.A back together at Coachella 2016, if it does indeed happen, is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Much like the Guns N’ Roses Coachella reunion is going to be, as well as LCD Soundsystem. It wouldn’t be too surprising to hear other legendary music acts announcing reunion performances this year.

2015’s Straight Outta Compton, the N.W.A biopic produced by Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, was one of the most successful films of the year, both critically and financially. Capitalizing on that success by performing at Coachella 2016 is kind of a no-brainer. Cube seemingly intends to “give everybody a little history lesson.” It is especially appropriate now that N.W.A has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

N.W.A had a semi-reunion, of sorts, when Ice Cube got MC Ren and DJ Yella to perform for the first time in over 25 years at Los Angeles’ BET Experience in 2015. The three rappers paid homage to their late, former member Eazy E, referencing “Boyz-N-The-Hood” and “Foe Tha Love of $,” as well as played some of Cube’s most popular solo songs and N.W.A’s most popular songs. The only one who was not there with them was Dr. Dre.

“It was real cool to be onstage with him again, but that’s still been 15 years ago,” Ice Cube said. “So it’s real cool to get up there and with the excitement around Straight Outta Compton, the movie. I think people are going to just be extra excited to get a glimpse of us.”

An N.W.A tour was rumored right before Dr. Dre released his final studio album, Compton. While Ice Cube seems optimistic about it, he also was unsure as to whether or not that reunion would feature Dr. Dre. “You never know. It’s like, I hope he blesses us with his presence,” said Ice Cube. “But if not, I’ve been rockin’ for a long time without anybody. So whoever shows up, I’m still gonna rock. Whoever don’t show up, we still gonna rock.”

It was rumored that Eminem, longtime friend and collaborator with Dre, would be taking the place of Eazy E if this reunion tour were ever to take place. But, as far as the N.W.A Coachella reunion, some are wondering what’s to be expected when Cube says there will be “great visuals.” In 2012, Coachella was what everyone was talking about when a hologram of the late rapper Tupac appeared on stage during Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s set. Some wonder if this kind of surprise is going to be repeated at this year’s Coachella festival.

According to some, Ice Cube may be planning to bring Eazy E back, in a sense, by providing a hologram on stage.

Coachella 2016 is going to take place during the weekends of April 15-17 and April 22-25. LCD Soundsystem is going to headline the Friday night of both weekends, with Guns N’ Roses headlining on Saturday and DJ Calvin Harris closing the Sunday night show.
