‘I Know It With Avery. He’s Guilty!:’ Jeanine Pirro Joins ‘Making A Murderer’ Debate, Says Steven Avery Is Guilty

Former judge and prosecutor Jeanine Pirro is joining in on the Making A Murderer debate. Pirro appeared on the HBO series The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst and has written a book about the investigation that took place to prosecute Durst. Pirro likened the Steven Avery case to that of the Durst case she worked on noting, “…knew it with Durst and I know it with Avery. He’s guilty!” However, it isn’t just Pirro stepping forward to say she believes Avery is guilty; even Avery’s ex-fiance Jodi Stachowski, who defended Avery on the documentary, is now speaking up and calling her former lover a “monster.”

The Daily Mail reports that former judge Jeanine Pirro is speaking out about the now infamous Steven Avery case that was brought to light by the Netflix documentary series Making A Murderer. Pirro calls the docu-series a “one-sided defense advocacy piece.” She notes that the series did not present all of the evidence to viewers, and that there was enough evidence in the case to prove Avery was guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Pirro points to some indisputable evidence noting, “Avery called Halbach, she was at his junkyard, her bones were found in a fire pit by his trailer, her DNA was found on a bullet fragment in his garage and his DNA was found under the hood of her vehicle.” Pirro says that these important arguments were not presented in the series because the piece was so one-sided. During an interview on Fox News, Pirro and host Megyn Kelly also discussed the fact that the video was originally not intended to be a documentary, but was made to be a defense submission in the trial.

For those who are not familiar with the Steven Avery case or Making the Murderer, the series followed Steven Avery as he was released after serving 18 years in prison for allegedly raping a jogger. He was released after DNA evidence exonerated him in the case. Following his release, Avery filed a lawsuit against Manitowoc County for wrongful conviction and imprisonment. As the lawsuit was unfolding, 25-year-old photographer Teresa Halbach was murdered.

Steven Avery would be found guilty of murder in the case of Halbach, along with his nephew Brendan Dassey, who was a teen at the time of the murder. Dassey confessed to helping Steven kill Halbach, but later recanted the statement. Avery has maintained that he did not kill Halbach and that police pinned the murder on him due to his lawsuit against the county for the wrongful conviction. Despite his assertion that the police framed him, Halbach was found guilty in the court of law and is currently serving his life sentence. However, thanks to the Netflix hit Making A Murderer, Avery’s case is once again in the public eye.

During the docu-series, Avery’s then-fiance Jodi Stachowski was a vocal supporter of Steven who claimed that he didn’t do it. However, the woman is now saying Avery was a “monster,” and that he forced her to say only positive things about him while being filmed. In fact, she now claims that Avery physically abused her, and that on one occasion she consumed two boxes of rat poison just to get away from him. When speaking with Nancy Grace, Stachowski says she believes Avery is guilty of murder.

In the interview, Stachowski said Avery threatened to kill her, her family, and a friend if she didn’t tread lightly. She also said that Avery made her smile and speak nicely about him on camera, but their relationship was not what it appeared to be. She said Avery was physically violent to her and that police records supported her assertion that she once ate rat poison just so she would be taken to the hospital and tell staff that she needed help.

“I ate two boxes of rat poison just so I could go to the hospital and get away from him and ask them to get the police to help me.”

Why is Stachowski speaking out now? She says that after seeing so many people stepping up to support Avery following the Making A Murderer documentary, she feels she had to say something because the documentary is full of “a bunch of lies.”

Jeanine Pirro seems to agree and says she has the same feeling about the Steven Avery case as she did about the Durst case; she whole-heartedly believes he is guilty. Pirro says the evidence is indisputable and that viewers should know the “documentary” is no documentary at all, but rather a “one-sided defense advocacy piece” originally made as a defense submission for the trial.
