Stormy Keffeler Gives Up Miss Washington USA Title As Police Probe Stabbing Of Major League Soccer Player Marco Pappa

Stormy Keffeler officially gave up her Miss Washington USA title on Thursday following two recent criminal controversies. Keffeler, 23, was crowned Miss Washington USA in October 2015, but failed to disclose a previous DUI arrest to pageant officials. If withholding information wasn’t enough to put Keffeler’s crown in danger, police in Washington are now probing a stabbing of professional soccer player, Marco Pappa, that occurred last month involving Stormy Keffeler.

NBC affiliate KING-TV out of Seattle, Washington, reported on Thursday that Monroe, Washington, native Stormy Keffeler resigned her title as Miss Washington USA. A Facebook post by Maureen Francisco reportedly confirmed Keffeler’s resignation. Francisco, co-executive producer with NW Productions, LLC, announced Keffeler’s immediate resignation as Miss Washington USA 2016, saying that first runner-up Kelsey Schmidt will take Keffeler’s place in representing Washington at the Miss USA pageant later this year.

“We can confirm the resignation of Stormy Keffeler as Miss Washington USA. Effective immediately, first runner-up Kelsey Schmidt will assume the title of Miss Washington USA 2016 and represent the state at the Miss USA event later this year. We wish Stormy well in her future endeavors.”

Last September, Stormy Keffeler pled guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol. Keffeler was crowned Miss Washington USA only one month later, but managed to keep her DUI arrest a secret. Pageant officials learned of the DUI conviction and sentencing of two days in jail on January 8 and warned Keffeler that her crown could be at risk. Police caught up with Keffeler one night in April 2015 after she popped two tires while driving in Seattle. Apparently, Keffeler’s blood alcohol content at the time was three times Washington’s legal limit.

According to KOMO News, Keffeler didn’t mean to falsify information. Keffeler claims she misfiled pageant paperwork, saying she never meant to hurt or offend anyone and that it was all just a huge mistake and misunderstanding. Following the DUI revelation, the Miss Universe Organization was supposed to decide whether or not Stormy Keffeler would remain Miss Washington USA. However, Keffeler decided to resign her crown amid new reports that the former Seattle Mist center and linebacker might have something to do with a stabbing involving a Major League Soccer player.

Marco Pappa, current MLS player for the Colorado Rapids, was found stabbed in the abdomen inside a Seattle apartment last month. Police said when they arrived at the South Lake Union apartment, Pappa, 28, was bloody from the stab wound, and the only person with him was Stormy Keffeler. Keffeler is now a possible suspect in Pappa’s stabbing, even though Pappa and Keffeler both offered up two different stories on how it happened. Pappa has since changed his original story, and no arrests have been made.

Complex Sports reports that the case is still under investigation, but it’s apparent that some sort of an altercation happened between Marco Pappa and Stormy Keffeler to cause Pappa to be stabbed that day in mid-December. Keffeler is reportedly not cooperating with police and suddenly resigned her Miss Washington USA title. Keffeler sat down for an interview with Good Morning America on Friday, saying that she still hopes to have the opportunity to change the world one day.

“It’s hard when a dream that you’ve had comes crashing down. I am a changed person, and I am willing to go out and prove it,” said Keffeler.

Keffeler will never have another chance at becoming Miss Washington USA per the rules of the beauty pageant, which state that contestants can have no felony convictions, probations, or misdemeanors. But Stormy Keffeler may still have a chance at her dream career of becoming a sports sideline commentator, depending on the outcome of Marco Pappa’s stabbing.
