Kate Middleton: How The Duchess Spent Her Birthday Weekend, Why She Gave Rare Curtsy

Kate Middleton recently celebrated her 34th birthday, and when reflecting on the year the Duchess has experienced, it is certainly a past year to be proud of. To welcome being one year older, Kate made sure to spend the big day with those she loves most.

The Irish Independent shares about the manner in which the Duchess’ day of birth was made special for her.

“Kate spent Saturday – the day of her birthday – with a private celebration at Anmer Hall, the country house that she and William recently renovated on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. On Sunday the Duchess of Cambridge emerged for a public outing at Sandringham, as she attended morning service at St. Mary Magdalene Church. Her parents Carole and Michael accompanied her and the 34-year-old was also joined by her siblings James and Pippa as they jetted back from their holiday in St Barts to celebrate Kate’s birthday. They were also photographed with two of Princess Charlotte’s godparents, James Meade and Sophie Carter.”

A source relayed what it was that Middleton had communicated as being her wish for her 34th birthday celebration to Us Weekly.

“[The birthday girl wanted] a low-key celebration. Kate doesn’t like to make a fuss.”

As always, Kate was sure to be on point stylistically, as she emerged for the outing wearing a chic black turtleneck and tweed Michael Kors blazer.

The publication notes, “The outfit was completed with a black hat, black Aquatalia boots and clutch bag.”

The event that Will and Kate attended at Sandingham was to mark the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign of Word War II. Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Edinburgh joined the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the laying of the wreath service, in honor of the marked occasion.

While at the service, something that appeared a tad unusual to onlookers was noticed in an exchange between Kate and Queen Elizabeth. Kate was seen curtsying to the Queen, and this had watchers talking. Just Jared clarifies as to why the curtsy that seems so rare, is actually a thing of normalcy and tradition between the royals. The editor of Majesty magazine relays the meaning behind the greeting to Just Jared.

“It is rare, but it indicates that this was the first time that the Duchess saw the Queen. It would normally happen in private. Although they came from Sandringham House, they obviously hadn’t seen each other before Kate and the Middletons and their friends set out on foot. It’s unusual to see it in public but not unique. That would have been the first communication between them on that day.”

The fact that the interaction was caught by the public eye as opposed to it being kept in the privacy of the royals, therefore, indicates that it is not a rare occurrence, simply one that is rarely caught by non-royals.

William and Kate also officially announced that they are to begin their 2016 tour by heading off to India in the Spring. It is likely that their two little ones, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, will not accompany the couple on their journey, although George was brought along for the royal tour of 2014.

To mark the Duchess’ birthday, the palace sent out a sweet throwback of Kate as a youngster next to a photo of the beauty giving her usual wide smile in the present. Kate has certainly done much over her 33rd year, and it seems as though her 34th is already filled with purpose and royal appearances that will keep her busy and hardly all about image. This royal has substance.
